This page allows you to define the connection method and settings FTGate will use when connecting to the Internet/ISP.

Description |
Connection Options |
|
Connect using LAN, ignoring schedule |
Select this option if you have a permanent connection to the Internet, e.g. DSL, ADSL, kilo-stream or mega-stream. |
Connect using a proxy server or dial-up router |
Select this option if you wish to connect using a proxy server or dial-up router. |
Connect using the following dial-up connection |
Select this option if you use a dial-up connection with a modem. |
DNS Servers |
|
Primary |
Enter the first DNS (Domain Name Server) address here, either the IP address or its name. The expected format for the DNS server is, either ns.isp.com or 123.123.123.123 where 123...is the IP address of the ISPs DNS server. |
Secondary |
Enter the Secondary DNS server IP address or name here. Format as above...
Note: It is recommended that you fill in both DNS server fields for best results and less errors. |
When Online |
|
Minimum sleep time |
This option sets the minimum time between connections.
For example a high priority message forces a connection at 14:54, with the next scheduled connection set to 15:00 it would not be a good use of resources to connect only minutes after the last connection.
So set this option to, say, 15 minutes, the result would be to miss the scheduled connection at 15:00. The next scheduled connection would take place as normal. |
Inactivity timeout |
Set the inactivity timeout to the required time period. The timeout will only start to count down if there is no activity on the connection from FTGate.
To set the æPostpone scheduleÆ and æInactivity timeoutÆ times, either enter them manually in seconds, minutes or hours. So 1 minute could be entered as 60s or 1m and one hour could be entered as 3600s, 60m or 1h.
Alternatively, the times can be incremented/decremented by clicking on the æplusÆ or æminusÆ buttons |
Execute After Connecting |
|
Command |
Enter the command line that FTGate is to execute after the connection has been established, e.g. the finger command. You will need to enter the full path for the executable in the command line. |
Script |
Define the Script to be run after the connection is established. For example, the ETRN or POP before SMTP Scripts could be entered here.
Enter the full path of the script to be executed after the connection has been established.
If no path is specified then the Scrip Library folder will be searched for the appropriate script. The location of the Script Library is defined on the Config | General properties page.
To edit the script (or create a new one if the file does not exist', click on the 'Edit script' button to show the Script Edit page. |
Proxy/Router kick |
|
Kick the proxy or router by connecting to the following: |
Enter the name of your ISPÆs SMTP mail server in the Address field to establish the connection before the mail transfer begins. This helps prevent connection failures and timeout errors, due to the time taken by some Proxy servers and dial-up Routers to establish the connection.
This option should be left blank if you are not connecting via a Proxy server or Dial-up Router. |
Port |
Define the port you wish the "Kick" to connect to. This is usually port 25, the SMTP port. |
