VGA provides 640 by 480 dots and uses 16 colours. Any graphics card will provide this, and more. Super VGA (SVGA) uses more dots and more colours and a graphics card with 1 Mb memory will provide SVGA resolutions up to 800 by 600 (perfect for a 15 in monitor) while using what is called high colour, offering around 64,000 colours on the screen at one time.
