The speed of transferring data from a CD-Rom disc to the computer's memory is an important factor when assessing the performance of the driver, and so is the time taken to find where on a disc information begins and ends. In practice however, it's easier to ignore these criteria  and look instead at the speed of the drive in relation to the original CD-Rom drive standard.
