nettou king of fighters 96 -------------------------- gameboy ------- faq version 0.0 by nIwSe ------------------------ this is a rushed faq as i wanted to find out how many people are playing this game so that i can plan for a more detailed guide for the next update. so please if anyone who is playing this game has anything to contribute, no matter how minor it is, or any comments or questions send an email to keipinsu@iscs.nus.edu.sg you will be properly credited if your information is new to me or not found elsewhere. introduction ------------ this is the latest offering from takara, based on the popular king of fighters series by snk. this fighting game for the nintendo gameboy offers no less than 15 characters. (i have no idea what nettou means.... and yes that is the actual title of the game) characters ---------- kyo, goro terry, andy ryo, robert athena leona mai iori, mature geese, krauser, mr big ( the only complete team) chizuru hidden characters includes... goenitz, mr karate, orichi iori (!!), orochi leona (!!), kagura (to find out all the codes for this game, visit www.segasages.com. remember to search under gameboy) contorl ------- light punch - tap b heavy punch - press b light kick - tap a heavy kick - press a it is important to know the tap and press method as it make a great deal to pulling off combos. (yes, they do exist in this version) moves, special, desperation, are very easy to pull off. in fact the control is very touchy. i sometimes pull off moves that i have no intention of doing. general moves ------------- knockdown - ab charge - dn ab back roll - bk ab front roll - fw ab dash - bk bk or fw fw taunt - select hyper/low/middle/high jumps and air block exist special moves ------------- surprisingly, no special/desperation/super desperation moves are lost in this convertion. visit www.segasages.com or www.gamefaqs.com for complete listing. (search under arcade section) no moves lists yet for mr karate, orochi iori/leona (different from kof97) and kagura. combos ------ combos in this version if done right is quite a sight to behold. some combos when i first saw them, actually made my jaws dropped! only downside is that most long combos are done with the opponent trapped in the corner (corner combos). here is a few to start you off..... - kyo life meter flashing, power bar at max and opponent at corner. kyo very close to opponent. [tap b] x 3 ; qcf [tap b] ; qcf [tap b] ; [press a] or [tap a] ; qcb qcf [press and hold b] a 21 hit combo !!! (very impressive) - iori infinite combo just keep doing scum gale [near hcf b] and possible to finish off with desperation move on certain characters. -athena corner combo [tap b] X 2 ; qcb [tap b] ; [tap b] X 2 ; qcb [tap b] ; fw dn fwdn [b] a 14 hit combo extra ----- by pressing ab select at takara logo, the game switches to a sort of hyper up version. - special moves register more hits - desperation moves done without power bar at max - super desperation moves done with power bar at max - if life flashing and power bar at max, certain characters have extra super desperation moves (!) for example terry's power geyser none - 1 hit power bar at max - 3 hits power bar at max and life flashing - 20+ hits (!!) also athena's crystal shoot can grow up to few times the normal size. others ------ so far only, the japanese version is out, no american version is planned as far as i know. if you manage to find this little gem, buy it! however, it's not a substitute for the original version but it certainly have captured the feel and gameplay of the series. it is one of the finest fighting game for the gameboy. and certainly put other 16 bits or even some 32 bits fighting games to shame. a well worth investment. thank you takara. 2nd feb 98
