Alan Dunning has been working with complex multi-media installations and artist books for the past two decades, using the computer as a tool for generating textual fields and real-time interactive environments. He has exhibited in more than 70 shows since 1980, including solo shows at The National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, The Banff Centre, Banff and Rutgers University, New Jersey and at at the 4th St.Petersburg Biennale, Russia where a version of the interactive VR work Einstein's Brain was presented, and at the University of Maryland where his Internet city, The Lost Dimension, was part of the international exhibition The Digital Village, which showcased interactive computer-generated artworks. Recently he and collaborator Paul Woodrow presented a paper and showed examples from the Einstein's Brain Project at the Ist International Conference on Virtual Reality in Valencia, Spain. He currently teaches inter-disciplinary and media courses in the Painting Programme at the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary.
