Personal software choices for the Amiga
These are the pieces of software I personally use so I recommend them :)
Inter-Networking
- TCP/IP Stack
- Miami -- Brilliant dialup TCP/IP stack. It's a dream to configure and works pretty much right out of the box.
- AmiTCP v4.3 -- Extensive TCP/IP stack
- PPP device v1.45 -- PPP support for AmiTCP
- Web Browsers
- Voyager 1.0 -- Free, very capable browser.
- AWeb v1.1 -- Stable, quick, but not feature heavy
- Ibrowse -- The most feature laden of the Browsers
- AMosaic -- Old standby which works for some things
- Assorted
- YAM v1.2 -- Yet Another Mailer. Excellent MUI based mailer with integrated SMTP/POP/UUEncoding/etc
- Thor v2.22 -- Excellent offline newsreader (does BBS formats as well)
- DaFTP -- Graphical FTP client; nicely done
- FTPMount v1.0 -- FTP based file system; treat remote FTP hosts as local drives
- Telser device v1.40 -- Serial device replacement so you can use normal comms programs for telnet/rlogin
- Grapevine -- IRC client
- AmIRC v1.1 -- IRC client (MUI based)
Many of these programs work fine on LANs as well, but I just use them for my dialup
connections.
Local Area Networks
- Peer to Peer
- Envoy v2 -- Supports most necessary details; light on security due to the Amiga's filesystem
- Assorted
- NetProbe -- Find out details about your Envoy network

- AIBB -- The better of the two performance monitors
- ARTM -- Keep a close eye on everything that's happening on your Amiga, and then fiddle with them :-)

- SnoopDOS -- Essential file monitoring utility (assuming you want to see what your Amiga just tried to find and couldn't)
- Scheduler
- On The Ball -- Compact but effective addressbook, diary, scheduler and so forth
- User Interface
- Magical User Interface -- The infamous MUI :-)

- PowerManager -- Combines disk caching, power management, screensaving and so on.
- ToolManager -- Create pop up docks and menu items
I'll be adding FTP addresses for software as time goes by. Links aren't necessarily
to the version I use as some are commercial. For those that aren't available on
the net (at all) I'll try to find suitable links.
