PIOS newsletter #1/97 ===================== That was it: After some glorious times the BeBox has left the stage. This is no good news for PIOS, since we like the box, and we have spent a lot of efforts into marketing for the BeBox. Until now, PIOS is "only" distributor of PowerPCs, now we've lost an important offering in our product line. During long discussions and serious negotiations we have decided not to continue the production of the BeBox. The most important reason against that is, that we will need (more than ever) all our personal and financial resources for our own product, the PIOS One. We are proceeding very well, and we do not want to jeopardize our product by losing focus. In addition, after a takeover we would have had to work out some major changes in the design of the BeBox. For all BeBox owners and the ones being interested in buying one, we have a clear statement: We will, together with Be Inc., continue to provide support for the sold BeBoxes. And from now on, all people being interested to buy a Box should consider to wait some weeks and purchase a PIOS One. The PIOS One will run BeOS, be fast (133 and 200 MHz), and offer a rich I/O section (including MIDI). And most important it is a very flexible design. Since we placed the CPU, the controller, and the memory on the daughtercard, the PIOS One is prepared for all future technologies. Certainly, there will be multiprocessing. In a first step the single-processor solution with clockspeeds of 133 and 200 MHz is absolutely state of the art. And that for about half the price of a BeBox! --Stefan Domeyer
