Amiga History

The Amiga was introduced into the computer market in 1985 by Commodore Business Machines. It was the first computer to have true Multi-Tasking, and a windows-based operating system in colour. The first Amiga was the Amiga 1000. It came with 256kb of RAM, expandable up to 4mb of RAM. It came with audio left and right outputs, to connect to a stereo system, thus being the first computer to output sound in stereo!

The A1000 came as a complete package, no additional sound, video, or graphics cards nedded. This 16 bit machine was well ahead of it's time.

However, Commodore went bankrupt around 1991. So, no one was there to support the Amiga. Without anyone for software and hardware support, the Amiga was not able to grow with technology. People got bored with the same old stuff, and wanted something new.

However, with the support of many Amigans, who wouldn't let this wonderful computer die a much too early death. So, the Amiga started it's long journey back to the main-stream where it deserves to be. Today there are still lots of people who don't know about the Amiga. When you mention "Commodore", people automatically think of the" Commodore 64!"
