Terminator BEAST BIOS Version 2.1B.25.K3G Installation Guide June 17th, 1998 CONTENTS What's New Determining your BIOS version Installation Troubleshooting How To Contact Hercules What's New ---------- 1. Fixed noise in some hires modes, i.e. 1280x1024x16bppx100Hz. 2. Improved stability and reduced noise on TV-out (BEAST SuperCharged). 3. Fixed failure in Nokia monitor test program. 4. Corrected several DOS box issues on TV-out. Determining your BIOS version ----------------------------- To determine which version of the Terminator BEAST BIOS you have, reboot your system. The version number will be displayed in the Terminator BEAST startup banner, which should appear before your computer's startup message. An alternate method is to run DEBUG and type "d c000:0" (without quotes) at the "-" prompt. On the right, you should see the BIOS banner text for the Terminator BEAST, including the version number. Type q and press Enter to exit DEBUG. Installation ------------ 1. Copy the flash BIOS program (K3G.EXE) to your hard drive. Make a note of the location to which you copied the program. 2. Boot your system to Safe Mode (Command Prompt Only). To do this, restart the system and press F8 after the memory count. Choose Safe Mode Command Prompt Only from the boot menu. Windows NT users should boot from a bootable MS-DOS floppy instead. 3. Change directory to the location to which you copied the flash program. Run the flash program by typing "K3G" (without quotes) and press Enter. 4. Wait until the flash program indicates the update was successful. This may take a while, so be patient. Interrupting the flash program before it's finished may render your card unusable! The screen may flicker or go blank during the update. 5. Reboot your system. Troubleshooting --------------- 1. Do not attempt to run the flash program from Windows. Boot to Safe Mode Command Prompt Only or with a bootable floppy instead (see instructions above). 2. Flashing your Terminator BEAST with a generic or 3rd-party BIOS may prevent you from updating the BEAST with future Hercules BIOS updates. If you inadvertently flash your BIOS with a 3rd-party version, contact Hercules Technical Support for instructions on replacing your card. 3. If your system appears to hang while running the update program, don't reboot right away. Wait for at least five minutes to give the flash program time to complete the update.
