═══ 1. Description ═══ Welcome to the installation and deinstallation utility for Galleria Lite. This utility is used to install (or deinstall) these products on your OS/2 system. You will be prompted for installation options (such as destination directory) prior to any changes being made to your system. All changes will be logged so you can see what this utility has done or correct errors if the installation fails. The deinstall option will reverse all changes to your system should you wish to remove the software from your system. Press Install to prompt for installation options. Press Deinstall to prompt for deinstallation options. Press Exit to terminate. NOTE: The Galleria Lite executables are packaged using Info-ZIP's compression utility. The installation program uses UnZip to process compressed files from the install directory or diskette. Info-ZIP's software (Zip, UnZip and related utilities) is free and can be obtained as source code or executables from various anonymous-ftp sites on Internet, including ftp.uu.net:/pub/archiving/zip/*. ═══ 2. Install options ═══ The Install options dialog is displayed to enable you to change options for the install. The Source directory must be set to the location of the packed files and utilities. Normally this will be the same as that containing the install utility. The destination Directories are the directories to be used to contain the unpacked executables and libraries. You may choose a different directory for the libraries (DLLs) if you wish. These directories will be created if they do not already exist. If the software has already been installed on a file server you can elect not to have the executables and libraries installed on your machine. The Destination directories will therefore be the file server directories. The install utility can modify the LIBPATH statement in CONFIG.SYS on your boot drive to point to the destination directory containing the libraries (above). If an entry for this directory already exists in the LIBPATH statement, no changes will be made. You can also have the install utility create a folder and icons for the software on the OS/2 desktop. This will permit you to start the applications or view documentation simply by double-clicking on the respective icons. Subsequently, you may wish to copy or move the icons to the desktop or a folder of your choice. It is recommended that you leave all options at their default values for the first time you install the software or if you experience any problems with the install. Press Proceed to start the install process with the above options. Press Defaults to reset all options to their default values. Press Cancel to return to the previous level. ═══ 3. Install activity ═══ The Install activity window allows you to monitor the install process. A log of every action taken is displayed together with an eventual return code. This will be zero for a successful install. When the installation is complete (or if it fails for any reason) you should review the log contents and return code. Press Save log to write the log to the source disk/directory as INSTALL.LOG. Press OK to exit. ═══ 4. Install notes ═══ IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT (Note that the information below is also to be found in the included README.DOC file should you need to refer to this after installation.) Galleria Lite, as a graphics-intensive application, demands a high level of support from display drivers. It is recommended that you ensure that you have the latest version of display driver installed for your display adapter type prior to installation. Below are fixes or bypasses for common problems that may be experienced:  Failure with SYS317x/SYS318x etc. when loading first image with VGA and SVGA drivers. Replacement IBMVGA32.DLL and IBMDEV32.DLL modules are included in the floppy-based version of this software in PJ10311.ZIP. These modules are also available for download from the OS2AVEN forum on CompuServe (as GALPTF.ZIP). Alternatively, contact IBM Support requesting the fix for APAR PJ10311. This problem has been fixed in OS/2 3.0.  Scrolling errors with 8514/A, S3 and ATI drivers. Bad data may be displayed in the scrolled area or even outside of Zoom window. This may also result in lockups on S3 systems. Contact IBM Support requesting the fix for APAR PJ12059. For ATI cards, contact ATI Technologies for a fix.  Miscellaneous errors (including exceptions, incorrect colors or scrolling problems) with other drivers. This is normally an indication that the display driver currently installed does not fully support the default direct paint mode used by Galleria Lite. These problems may disappear if you change the driver settings to use a different color depth. If not, you should be able to bypass the problem by setting the Paint directly cutoff value to the maximum in the Galleria Lite Preferences dialog. For a permanent fix, contact the vendor of your display adapter for an updated driver. ═══ 5. Deinstall options ═══ The Deinstall options dialog is displayed to enable you to change options for the deinstall. The destination Directories are the directories used for a prior install to contain the unpacked executables and libraries. All installed files will be deleted from these directories (unless you disable this). These directories will be removed if they are empty after the files are deleted. If you did not copy files during installation (i.e. you used a file server copy of the software instead) you should disable the Delete files option. The deinstall utility can restore the LIBPATH statement in CONFIG.SYS on your boot drive to remove the entry for the directory containing the libraries (above). If an entry for this directory does not exist in the LIBPATH statement, no changes will be made. The deinstall process can also remove the folder (and all contents) from the OS/2 desktop created during the install. Press Proceed to start the deinstall process with the above options. Press Cancel to return to the previous level. ═══ 6. Deinstall activity ═══ The Deinstall activity window allows you to monitor the deinstall process. A log of every action taken is displayed together with an eventual return code. This will be zero for a successful deinstall. When the deinstallation is complete (or if it fails for any reason) you should review the log contents and return code. Press Save log to write the log to the source disk/directory as INSTALL.LOG. Press OK to exit.
