DG-600 M ======== An add-on aircraft for Microsoft Flight Simulator, created with Mallard's Aircraft & Adventure Factory (AAF). Description: The DG-600 M is a retractable motor version of the popular high-performance carbon composite glider DG-600. Being produced since 1991 by Glaser-Dirks Flugzeugbau of Bruchsal, Germany, it is recognized as one of the most advanced gliders to date. For competition use in both FAI-15m and Open Class, the DG-600 M comes with two sets of wing tips, one making for 15m and the other one for 17m wing span. It features full span flaperons and an onboard computer to optimize their use. Large spoilers and a rugged gear allow for short landings. Specifications: Dimensions: Span 17m - Length 6.8m - Height 1.4m Wings: Full Carbon Composite, Area 11.6m2, Aspect Ratio 25, Airfoil HQ35 Weight: 315kg (empty) - 440kg (max. for self launch) - 525kg (max.) Water Tank: 120l Gas Tank: 22l Motor: Rotax 275 Two-Stroke 18kW/25hp geared 1:3 Propeller: MT140 L92-1B (1.4m diameter) Performance: Glide Ratio: 49:1 (525kg, 115km/h) Max. Speed: 270km/h Stall Speed: 69km/h (400kg) Climb Rate: 2.1m/s (400kg, 88km/h) Sink Rate: 0.53m/s (400kg, 85km/h) (1m = 3.28ft, 1kg = 2.2lbs, 1km/h = 0.62mph, 1l = 0.264gal) Flying the AAF version: Raising and stowing the motor unit is as simple as typing the FS4 commands "M4" and "M0". The plane will take off by itself. For added fun, the power has been doubled from the original 25hp to 50hp. The flight model has quite realistic performance when thermalling below 60mph. At higher speeds, the plane gets very responsive and makes zooming around Meighs (in full screen tower view) a real blast :-) Problems: The canopy still leaves something to desire - I was too lazy to draw it as a whole bunch of single panels. Also, some parts of the motor unit bleed through the plane at certain viewing angles - I could not mark those parts as insignia because they have to disappear when the motor is stowed. Would appreciate feedback and suggestions!
