WELCOME TO PSIWIN 2 ******************** Now that you have completed the installation, you can connect your Psion and PC and start using PsiWin. Getting started quickly with PsiWin 2.1 ======================================= 1) Plug the larger connector on the Docking Cable into one of your PC's COM ports, and the smaller one into the serial port on the Series 5. Important: If you have a serial device (e.g. a modem or serial mouse) attached to your PC COM port, it is a good idea to tell PsiWin to ignore that COM port. See 'Selecting which COM port to use' below for more information. 2) In the Series 5's System screen, select the "Remote link" command from the Tools menu. 3) Set the Link to "Cable" and the Baud rate to 115200. 4) Double-click the My Psion icon on the Desktop. PsiWin will automatically connect to your Series 5 and display icons representing its disks. 5) For a brief guide to PsiWin 2.1 features, click the Help menu and select Help Topics. Open the "Quick guide to PsiWin" topic. Selecting which COM port to use =============================== Usually, it does not matter which COM port on your PC you use to connect your Psion. PsiWin will quickly check each port in turn in order to find a connected Psion. Some devices may be using the COM port in such a way that PsiWin is not able to establish a connection with a Psion. This may happen if you have certain modems or a serial mouse attached to your PC, and also if your PC has internal devices which can access the COM port (e.g. an internal modem). If this happens, it may not be possible for PsiWin to connect, or the connection may be very slow. It is a good idea to tell PsiWin to ignore some ports so that conflicts with other devices do not occur. To do this: 1) Right-click the My Psion icon in the Desktop and click Properties. 2) Select the Connections tab. Uncheck any boxes in the Settings dialog for the COM ports used by other devices. Make sure that you check the boxes for any ports that you might use to connect a Psion. Note: If you are unsure which COM ports are in use on your PC, check the port settings using the System icon in the Windows Control Panel. On-line Help & manual ===================== PsiWin Help is also available from the Help menu in Windows Explorer (if you currently have a Psion file or folder selected) and from the Programs list on the Start menu. If you prefer paper-based documentation you can print out the whole of the Help text as a "User Manual".
