Joseph Brindle rought his family to Collins Point, Maine in 1891 to fish the rich waters nearby. Elisa, his wife of ten years, made all of his clothing out of the most rugged materials available at the time. Within a few years, she was also making clothes for other fishermen.
On February 19, 1897, the Arcadia Bay Clothing Company opened its doors to outfit those who earned their living in the inforgiving climate of northern Maine. By 1912, Arcadia Bay was known all over the east coast for its high-quality, durable outdoor clothing. That year, we printed our first catalogue, a marketing technique unheard of for such a small comany.
