Dr. APPN Diagnosis Version 1.00 11/01/93 ******************************************************************************* Purpose: DRAPPN.EXE was created by a need for customers and support staff to be able to quickly check for connectivity while not having to remember all of the verbose options required to execute some of the IBM Sample utility programs. Because of this need and the desire to make it into a simple PM based utility, VX-Rexx was chosen as a simple front end to the existing IBM sample programs to allow upgrades to these without requiring rebuilding the front end. Design: The design started with a main menu selection of 10 different options which appeared to be the most common for most people's use. They include the following: APING Mainframe - These options issue a standard APING to either APING Network Node an APPC/MVS Application, an APPN Network Node, APING Prompt or any other name that will be prompted for. They interrogate the response to issue a single reply indicating whether or not the connectivity test was good or bad. There are 2 user customizeable files called MFLIST.DAT and NNLIST.DAT which contain the fully qualified names of APPC/MVS Appls and Network Node names. Of course you can include End Nodes,LEN's,etc if desired in either list. The distinction was to be able to show that there is a relationship between End Node and Network Node(most likely) before End Node to APPC/MVS host. E.G. Check your Network Node and then check the Mainframe to ensure the proper connectivity. If this is distributed to end user's, my suggestion would be to only include the user's Preferred and possibly their backup NN server. APING Options MFLIST - This is pretty much the same as above options APING Options NNLIST except that the output is not interrogated but APING Options Prompt merely presented to the user with EPM.EXE. Since this data is most likely being used for performance measurements, I wanted an easy way for the user/support person to save the data into another file, etc. Display Links NNLIST - This option issues the DISPLAY -LI command to Display Links Prompt find out the Active links to a particular Network Node or Prompt for any node. This also implies that they must have RDSPSRVR.EXE available on that node. The same NNLIST.DAT file is used here. EPM.EXE is used to present this data to the user for the same reason as APING Options, historical purposes. Display Options NNLIST- This option prompts the user for which of the Display Options Prompt 24 available options to query for. They are Check box selectable and multiple options can be selected. If no option is marked, then ALL options are used. General Information - Error's from APING and DISPLAY programs are not routed to the standard output, therefore, if an error of this type occurs, I decided to go ahead and let it flow to the VX-Rexx Console for interrogation.
