BL> BL> What else is needed, and where is the source(s)? Thanks, and Good BL> Modeming! ADSL modems are no problem (in and of themselves). They "connect" to your computer via a network card (NIC). Your Telco *might* supply one, but be careful, you will need a NIC with OS/2 drivers (NDIS) available. Most 3com NICS have OS/2 drivers available, but you might have to buy your own if the Telco doesn't supply one that will work. MPTS will install and configure your NIC fairly easily. Just set up TCP/IP to look for a DHCP server for IP info, etc. Your biggest potential problem is "logging on" to the ADSL network (and ISP). My Telco works fine, because they use a web page for login/logout and all that's required is Java support. I have heard that some ADSL suppliers require you to run "login client" software, this is usually a Windows or Mac based application. This can present BIG problems for OS/2 (and even UNIX) users. Good luck, all of the important decisions are out of your hands. All I can say for sure is that it *might* work out OK, I'm using Warp 4 w/fp12 and an ADSL (Cisco 675) "modem" here, and I love it! ___ X KWQ/2 1.2i X Today is a gift; that's why they call it "the present." --- Maximus/2 2.02 * Origin: OS/2 Shareware BBS, telnet://bbs.os2bbs.com (1:109/347) +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ From: Dave Davidson 20-Nov-99 12:07:01 To: Bas Heijermans 21-Nov-99 06:12:05 Subj: Re: External HP CD-RW Hiya Bas, 15-Nov-99 02:29:24, Bas Heijermans wrote to Dave Davidson Subject: Re: External HP CD-RW GF>> At this point in time RSJ only supports SCSI and IDE style CDR/RW GF>> devices. Kinda figured that out myself.... I _DID_ get OS2FAT32 working, so I can now utilize WIN98's FAT32 drives with OS/2. As I progress with OS/2, most of those FAT32 drives will be converted to HPFS. Now, if I could just get WIN98 to read HPFS drives, life would be much simpler. I need to "share" drives for files, until I get Adept setup and running correctly. TIA I have one of those lying around here somewhere. The PC keyboard interface only has four used pins, so it's possible to make an adapter, though I'm not certain that the WYSE keyboard will work properly. The PS/2 plug has these pinouts: 1 - Data 2 - Not used 3 - Ground 4 - +5 volts 5 - Clock 6 - Not used I don't know the pinout of the WYSE connector, but it'd probably be a good bet to assume the same order (you'll need to use trial and error, if it isn't). To make the adapter, you'll want a RJ-11 union. It'll look like the opening of a telephone jack on opposite ends. Make sure you get one with a seam across the middle, so you can pull it apart with each end intact. Snip the wires off of the one end - the other end will be for the keyboard. Next you'll need a segment of PS/2 cable (mouse or keyboard - they're both the same). Needless to say, it needs to be a male end (with the pins). You'll need to associate the wire colors with the pin number, using whatever you have available - something to send a current through the wire, and let you know when you've completed the circuit with the correct pin. A multimeter will accomplish this. Then connect the appropriate PS/2 connector wires to the RJ-11 union wires. When you match them up correctly (if that's possible), the keyboard will work. When you have them correct, solder the wires, and put a bunch of electrical tape around them. Or, you could look for an adapter in the store, which probably doesn't exist.
