More and more clients are coming up, and managing all the IPs is a poor job, so I tried to setup the Dynamic IP on our Warp 4 Server. Without success. ): I want to give the clients (mostly NT and W9x) IPs in the range from 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.254, all in one subnet (255.255.255.0). Some IPs can't be dynamic. I installed tcp/ip on the Warp 4 box and >tried to configure it t no avail. Any help or shoves in the right Note that there is nothing inherently different about a cable modem and a router, which in essense it is. What you have to do is first make sure that you NIC is configured properly along with Warp's software. Did you choose the Networking install? Does the NIC driver load properly at boot? The first thing I would do is check your networking software setup. Run MPTS to check for basic networking commponents. remove all transports except for TCP/IP if there are others. It is much easier to get one working properly and then install others that are needed. Once you are sure that the basic networking components are installed and configured properly then go to the TCP/IP configuration notebook and configure TCP/IP. Make sure that you include the loopback adapter. It will allow you to check your TCP/IP configuration locally. You should be able to do a successful "ping localhost". Once you get this working then set up the parameters that your ISP has given you for DNS, whether or not to use DHCP or a static IP address your domain name, possibly a host name, a gateway/router address. >direction would be appreciated. You have a peer network. THere is no domain controller. Go to the login icon on networks and then login with the File and Print Client Workstation Login icon. You will only see User ID and Password and no Domain. If you see more you've made a mistake. You can also go to a command line and type "net view". This will start everything you need and give you the correct login screen, too. As for the scsi zip drive, I have an ide one and it works fine, but you do have to tell the network that you want to share it. Go to Shared Resources ad Network Connection - Properties. find the tab, Connections. then click on create connection and wait until you see that screen and look for Resource Location. It will show all the machines in the server window. If the machines don't show up, there may be some other problem. If you meant zip cartridge instead of tape, then I would ask if you installed the iomega drivers. You must have if you see the drive. But since I don't have that kind, I'm not sure how it works. If you are talking about a tape drive, it won't show up. The backup software finds it somehow. jknott@ibm.net (James Knott) wrote: >The domain controller is only required for logging onto a domain i.e. >a client/server configuration. It is easier to use the REXX ftp API if you do not need all the socket capabilities. From the online documentation: The REXX FTP API package is contained in the file rxftp.dll. This dynamic link library (DLL) must be placed in a directory listed in your LIBPATH statement in your CONFIG.SYS file. To use the functions in the REXX FTP API package, execute this REXX code: rc = RxFuncAdd("FtpLoadFuncs","rxFtp","FtpLoadFuncs") rc = FtpLoadFuncs() To unload the DLL, you should first call the FtpDropFuncs() function, then exit all CMD.EXE shells. After exiting all the command shells, the DLL will be dropped by OS/2 and can be deleted or replaced. > > >What kind of scheduling mechanism does OS/2 (Warp 4) have? > > It doesn't, but there is a choice of Cron-like utilties on Hobbes which will > do the job. > It certainly does! The README.TXT file contains helpful instructions. I'm assuming this is an ISA NE2000 card. If it's a PCI card, you'd probably need the RealTek driver, which is a different story. > I wonder if some one could assist with a way to get the Network, and > eventually TCP/IP working on the LAN so as I can get OS2 working via > the WIN95 proxy server an then the internet. If you've already got TCP/IP installed - which I assume you do if you already tried the Eagle drivers - just follow the instructions to install the generic NE2000 driver above, and if all goes well you should then be able to plug your IP settings into the TCP/IP Configuration notebook, and be off. -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- Alex Taylor BA - CIS - University of Guelph alex@eddie.cis.uoguelph.ca http://eddie.cis.uoguelph.ca/~alex ----------------------------------------------------------------- --- WtrGate+ v0.93.p7 sn 165 * Origin: Usenet: @Home Network Canada (1:109/42) +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ +============================================================================+
