═══ 1. DCF/2 Version 1.2 workaround for Lotus AmiPro 3.0 ═══ November 1994 Dear DCF/2 Customer, Proportional Software is working together with Lotus to resolve the SYS 3175 error which occurs when Lotus AmiPro Version 3.0 for OS/2 is on a DCF/2 virtual disk unit (VDU). This problem only occurs with the standalone version and we hope to have a program fix shortly. This information file offers a method for using AmiPro on a DCF/2 VDU. You can place all of your AmiPro files on a DCF/2 VDU with the exception of the STYLES directory. This means that you can compress about 15.5 MB out of 16 MB (and more if you want to store most of your *.STY style sheets on the vdu, but you cannot access them directly from AmiPro unless they are in the style sheet directory). Compressed results for our test systems are: o Uncompressed requirement for full AmiPro install is 17,306,112 bytes o Compressed space needed is 8,552,391 bytes including style sheets o AmiPro full install style sheet directory will use about 539,391 bytes o Minimum required style sheet (_default.sty) is 4,734 bytes The problem is that when you install the AmiPro software to a DCF/2 VDU, it trys to put its style sheets directory on the VDU and then won't startup because of the SYS3175 error. To workaround this problem, you need to copy the AmiPro _DEFAULT.STY style sheet (and any others you wish to use) to a physical disk unit (PDU) and modify the AMIUSER3.INI entry to point to this new directory. The workaround to install AmiPro onto a DCF/2 VDU and put the style sheets directory on a physical volume is as follows: o Install AmiPro to your DCF/2 VDU o Copy AmiPro style sheets to a physical drive o Modify the AmiPro AMIUSER3.INI style sheet entry Each step is detailed below. Install AmiPro to your DCF/2 VDU following their standard installation instructions. When the installation is completing, you will receive a SYS3175 error message as the AmiPro installer trys to start one of the AmiPro programs. Ignore this error and select the "End program" option. Go to an OS/2 command prompt. Create a directory on a physical disk where you want to keep your AmiPro style sheets (e.g., "MD C:\AMISTYLS", where C: is the disk and \AMISTYLS is the subdirectory where you want to keep the style sheets). Copy the AmiPro style sheets from the VDU to the new style sheets directory (e.g., "COPY F:\AMIPRO\STYLES\*.* C:\AMISTYLS /V", where F: in this example is the DCF/2 VDU to which you have installed AmiPro). Change directory to the AMIPRO program directory. Clear the system attribute on the AMIUSER3.INI file (e.g., "ATTRIB C:\OS2\AMIUSER3.INI -S", where C: is your boot drive). Use the Lotus ini file editor to edit the ini file (e.g., "INIEDIT"). Click on OK on the warning message. Select FILE, Select OPEN, Double Click on AMIUSER3.INI, Select AMIUSER, Downarrow to StylePath, Click on StylePath, Click on VALUE Field. Change this field to be the new style sheets directory path (e.g., "C:\AMISTYLS"). Click on FILE. Click on SAVE. ALT-F4 to exit the Lotus ini file editor. You can now use AmiPro. Verify the program works correctly before deleting the old style sheets from your VDU. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for using the DCF/2! Proportional Software
