WinDriver for OS/2

This page describes the setup and usage of WinDriver for OS/2.

Installing WinDriver with OS/2

  1. Download Download WD440O2.zip - WinDriver for OS/2.
  2. unzip the package to C:\WinDriver directory (or windrvr for 8.3 file systems)
    C:> unzip WD440O2.zip.
  3. copy windrvr.sys to the boot directory:
    C:> copy C:\WinDriver\redist\eval\windrvr.sys C:\OS2\BOOT.
  4. copy windrvr.dll to the dll directory:
    C:> copy C:\WinDriver\redist\eval\windrvr.dll C:\OS2\DLL.
  5. add the folowing line in you config.sys file:
    DEVICE=C:\OS2\BOOT\WINDRVR.SYS.
  6. Reboot the computer

Using WinDriver with OS/2

  1. Run a sample driver: C:\WinDriver\samples\pci_diag\pci_diag.exe from the command line.
  2. Now you can scan the PCI bus, open cards and 'talk' to them.
  3. Use this or any other sample as the basis for your driver.

Development Tip
WinDriver for OS/2 based on our WinDriver product line. You may save much time by downloading the Windows version of WinDriver and use its graphical development environment for fast hardware validation and automatic code generation. If you choose to do so - please follow the next few steps:

  1. Download and install WinDriver for OS/2 (4.40 version).
  2. Download and install WinDriver for Windows (Don't skip this part).
  3. Plug your hardware into a Windows(!) Machine (if possible).
  4. Run DriverWizard on the Windows machine, choose your hardware and view/define its resources.
  5. Use the graphical environment to verify that your hardware works as expected, by reading from and writing to your hardware.
  6. Use the Code Wizard to automatically generate your driver code.
  7. Move your hardware and the generated code to OS/2 machine and recompile.
  8. Your driver will now work on OS/2 (and is also portable to all other supported OSs).
