4.0 Chapter 4. Sample Scenario of Using an OpenDoc Document

Throughout this book we have discussed the OpenDoc components. With The
Developer Connection for OS/2 Volume 9 Special Edition, OpenDoc has some
simple sample components or parts. They were included to give the user
some idea of what the parts could do and to help developers understand the
concept of parts. These sample parts can be used to demonstrate the
concepts behind OpenDoc documents although they may not contain all the
functions and features that an advanced user would want to use to create a
document. For example, the 2D Graphics part has a few basic editing
facilities, such as a rectangle, circle and freehand drawing.

Future part development hopefully will provide parts that have more features and will have a greater variety of components or parts to fulfill the different needs of complex tasks (for example, different word processor parts that have special features, such as extensive table layout, special character handling and foot notes).

In this chapter we describe the features of the sample parts that are included in OpenDoc, which is supplied with The Developer Connection for OS/2 Volume 9 Special Edition. Although you can use these parts to create a document, you have to keep in mind that they are limited.

At the end of this chapter we explain how we created some of the OpenDoc documents that you have seen in this book. The figures that we will be looking at are Figure 1 in topic 1.1 and Figure 3 in topic 1.3.1.
