═══ 1. Main installation window ═══ The main installation window allows the selection of which components are to be installed and to specify where they are to be installed to. The installable components are listed on the left hand side of the window and details of the current or highlited component are shown on the right hand side. ═══ 2. Close confirmation ═══ When the installation program is closed, all changes will be lost. When the program is restarted, all directories, chosen components etc will be reset to their default values regardless of previous installations. ═══ 3. Installable components ═══ The list of installable components is shown as a tree representing the reationships between components. When a component has been selected for installation, a checkmark will appear to the left hand side of the component's name. A component can be selected or deseleted for installation by first highlighting it with the mouse or cursor keys to make it the current component and then double clicking on it with the mouse; pressing the space bar or clicking on the Select/Deselect pushbutton. When a component is selected, it's parent component is also selected, then it's parent's parent etc. Any child components are also selected unless they have been explicitly deselected previously. Finally, any components which the current component requires will also be selected although confirmation of this action will first be requested. When a component is deselected, any child components are also deselected. If other components require the current component, they will also be deselected although confirmation of the action will first be requested. ═══ 4. Destination path ═══ The destination path determines where the current component's files and subdirectories will be installed. If a components path has not been modified from the default value, this will be a subdirectory of the parent component's destination path. ═══ 5. Disk space ═══ The disk space required by a component is only displayed if that component is selected for installation. The disk space required is displayed for each drive to which the component's files will be installed. The required sizes are the sum of all file sizes associated with the current component and all file sizes associated with selected child components. To see the overall total of space required on each disk, the top-most component must be highlited in the tree view. ═══ 6. Select/Deselect ═══ The Select/Deselect pushbutton will select or deselect the current component for installation. Clicking on this button has the same effect as double clicking on the current component in the tree view with the mouse. ═══ 7. Undo ═══ The Undo pushbutton will undo any changes made to the current component since it became highlighted. Clicking on this button will return the selection state and destination to the values they had when the component was highlited. When a different component is highlited, changes to the previous component are made permanent and the Undo pushbutton will not be enabled. ═══ 8. Default ═══ The Default pushbutton will set the values associated with the current component to their defaults. Clicking on this button will set the component's selection state to match that it's parent and the destination path to become a subdirectory of the parent's destination path. ═══ 9. Install ═══ The Install pushbutton will commence installation of the selected components. ═══ 10. Options ═══ The Options pushbutton will invoke the options window, where details of the installation process can be specified. ═══ 11. Quit ═══ The Quit pushbutton will exit the installation program. ═══ 12. Help ═══ The Help pushbutton will display the help text available for the installation program. ═══ 13. Installation options window ═══ The installation options window allows specification of which parts of the system should be updated by the installation program. ═══ 14. Install selected files ═══ When the Install selected files checkbox is selected, the installation process will physically transfer the requested files to the target system. It may be useful to deselect this option if the files have been installed perviously or are to be used direct from the installation disk. ═══ 15. Register WPS classes ═══ When the Register WPS classes checkbox is selected, any files which implement Workplace Shell classes will be registered with the system. It may be useful to deselect this option if the installation is to copy files to a LAN server or other machine for which the environment need not be set up. ═══ 16. Create desktop objects ═══ When the Create desktop objects checkbox is selected, all objects such as folders, program references etc will be created on the desktop. It may be useful to deselect this option if the installation is to copy files to a LAN server or other machine for which the environment need not be set up. ═══ 17. Update CONFIG.SYS ═══ When the Create desktop objects checkbox is selected, system configuration changes will be written to the specified file which is CONFIG.SYS by default. It may be useful to deselect this option if the installation is to copy files to a LAN server or other machine for which the environment need not be set up. ═══ 18. Updated CONFIG.SYS filename ═══ After the system's CONFIG.SYS has been modified, the changes will be saved to this file. By default, that will mean writing the changes back to the system's CONFIG.SYS. ═══ 19. Backup CONFIG.SYS ═══ When the Backup CONFIG.SYS checkbox is selected, the specified system configuration file will be copied to the backup filename before any changes are made. By default, selecting this checkbox means that the CONFIG.SYS file will be copied to CONFIG.BAK before any changes are made. ═══ 20. Backup CONFIG.SYS filename ═══ Before writing changes to the specified system configuration file, the original will be copied to this file. By default, this will be CONFIG.BAK. ═══ 21. OK ═══ The OK pushbutton will confirm changes made to the installation options and close the options window. ═══ 22. Cancel ═══ The Cancel pushbutton will close the options window without keeping any of the changes made. ═══ 23. Help ═══ The Help pushbutton will display the help text available for the options window. ═══ 24. Prerequisite components window ═══ The prerequisite components window displays components which require or are required by the current component. If selecting or deselecting a component would result in components being installed without the components the require, this window will show which components will also need to be selected or deselected. ═══ 25. Prerequisite component list ═══ The component list displays those components which will also be selected or deselected along with the current component if the action is carried out. A component will appear in this list if it is required by a component being selected; requires a component being deselected or would ordinarilly have automatically been seleted along with the current component but was previously explicitly deselcted. ═══ 26. OK ═══ The OK pushbutton will confirm the action to take place on the prerequisite components, selecting or deselecting all in the list along with the current component. The prerequisite components window will close after the action has been carried out. ═══ 27. Cancel ═══ The Cancel pushbutton will reject the action to take place on prerequisite components aswell as the current component, restoring the selection to the state it was in before the Select/Deselect action was chosen. The prerequisite components window will close after this button has been pressed. ═══ 28. Help ═══ The Help pushbutton will display the help text available for the prerequisite components window. ═══ 29. Installation status ═══ The installation status window displays the current status of the installation in progress. The current component and installable item being processed are displayed along with a status bar indicating how much of the installation has been completed. When the installation has completed, the installation status window will automatically close, returning to the main installation window. ═══ 30. Installation error ═══ The installation error message indicates an unexpected error which has ocurred during the installation. In most cases, an explanation is given regarding the reason for the error. If the Abort option is given, this can be chosen in order to abort the entire installation. If the Retry option is given, this option can be chosen in order to retry the failing operation. If the Ignore option is given, this option can be chosen in order to ignore the error and proceed with the rest of the installation. ═══ 31. Abort confirmation ═══ The Abort confirmation message indicates that aborting the installation has been requested. Confirming the abort will cause the installation operation to terminate and automatically close the installation status window. ═══ 32. Installation confirmation ═══ When the selected files require more disk space than is currently available on the chosen target drives, the installation must be confirmed. Confirming the installation will initiate the installation process whereas rejecting the installation will return to the main installation window. The free disk space is calculated without regard for previous installtions of the same files. For this reason, attempting to re-install the files may result in this warning even though the installation will succeed without error. ═══ 33. Installation completion ═══ When the installation has completed, the installation status window will automatically close. If updates were made to the system configuration file (CONFIG.SYS by default), the completion message will indicate that a reboot is required. The installation program does not keep track of which components have been installed on this or previous occasions. ═══ 34. Completion status ═══ The completion status bar represents the amount of installation work completed at a percentage of the total amount of work to do. ═══ 35. Abort ═══ The Abort pushbutton will prompt for confirmation before aborting the installation. If the abort is confirmed, the installation will complete as soon as the current item is finished with. The installation program will not attempt to restore the system back to it's previous state in the event of an abort. ═══ 36. Help ═══ The Help pushbutton will display the help text available for the installation status window. ═══ 37. Update config.sys error ═══ An error occured while trying to update the config.sys or update file specified in the options. Possible reasons could be that the file is read only, the drive is not ready or the drive is not writeable. ═══ 38. Retry ═══ The Retry pushbutton will try to perform the operation again. ═══ 39. ForceUpdate ═══ The ForceUpdate pushbutton will try to change the attributes of the file to make it writeable and then try to update it. ═══ 40. Cancel ═══ The Cancel pushbutton will display a dialog box warning the user that the changes to config.sys or the update file will be lost. The user is given a second chance to save the changes in a separate file. ═══ 41. Help ═══ The Help pushbutton will display the help text available for the installation error window. ═══ 42. Save config.sys changes ═══ The changes to config.sys will be lost. If you don't want the loose the changes enter the name of the file where you want to save these changes. ═══ 43.
