═══ 1. Toolbar ═══ Use the Toolbar to enable the functions needed to create new designs. The Toolbar is automatically visible when the Graphics component is active. Use Hide Toolbar from the View menu pulldown to prevent it from being displayed within the Graphics component. ═══ 2. Selection ═══ Use the Selection pointer as a "stop" button when using tools from the Toolbar. After you have completed a drawing, click on Select to change your mouse pointer from the drawing mode to back its original function. ═══ 3. Line ═══ Use Line to create an object which is defined by two endpoints. To draw a line object: 1. Click on the Line icon on theToolbar. 2. Click mouse button 2 at any point in your document to set the first endpoint. 3. Drag the mouse pointer the desired length of your line. 4. Click mouse button 2 again to set the second endpoint. Lines are created with a default set of characteristics such as line color, line style, line width, and shadow style. Note: Holding the SHIFT key down while positioning the second endpoint will constrain the line to be vertical or horizontal (depending on where the cursor is placed). ═══ 4. Polyline ═══ Use Polyline to create an object which is a set of connected points. The first point may or may not be even with the endpoint, making the finished polyline shape a closed polygon. Polyline appears on the Toolbar as three connected line segments. Polyines are created with a default set of characteristics including line color, line style, line width, fill color, fill style, and shadow style. To draw a polyline: 1. Click on the Polyline icon on the Toolbar. 2. Click mouse button 2 at any point in your document. 3. Drag the mouse pointer the desired length of a side of the shape. 4. Click mouse button 2 again to set the second endpoint. 5. Repeat the click-and-drag action until you have drawn the shape you want. 6. Double-click mouse button 2 to end drawing. Note: Specifying a fill style for a non-closed polyline does not cause a line to automatically be drawn connecting the first and last points of your shape. ═══ 5. Rectangle ═══ Use Rectangle to create an object which is a four-sided, closed polygon. The Rectangle tool appears as on the Toolbar as a hollow box. When initially created, a rectangle's edges are horizontal and vertical, but the shape can be changed using the Rotate and Scale functions. The rectangle is created with a default set of characteristics including line color, line style, line width, fill color, fill style, and shadow style. To draw a rectangle: 1. Click on the Rectangle icon on the Toolbar. 2. Click mouse button 2 to set the first corner. 3. Drag the mouse pointer to the desired rectangular shape. 4. Click mouse button 2 to set the second corner. Note: Holding the SHIFT key down while positioning the second corner forces the new rectangle shape to be a square. ═══ 6. Box ═══ Use Box to create an object which is identical to a rectangle, except that it includes a solid fill, rounded corners, and a shadow. The box is created with a default set of characteristics including line color, line style, line width, fill color, fill style, and shadow style. To draw a box: 1. Click on the Box icon on the Toolbar. 2. Click mouse button 2 to set the first corner. 3. Drag the mouse pointer to the desired box shape. 4. Click mouse button 2 to set the second corner. ═══ 7. Ellipse ═══ Use Ellipse to create an object which is an oval or circle. The Ellipse icon appears on the Toolbar as a hollow oval. The ellipse is created with a default set of characteristics, including line color, line style, line width, fill color, fill style, and shadow style. When initially created, an ellipse's axes are horizontal and vertical, but the shape can be changed using the Rotate and Scale functions. To draw an ellipse: 1. Click on the Ellipse icon on the Toolbar. 2. Click mouse button 2 to set the center point of your shape. 3. Drag the mouse pointer to the desired elliptical shape. 4. Click mouse button 2 to set the end point. Note: Holding the SHIFT key down while positioning the second point forces the new ellipse shape to be a circle. ═══ 8. Arc ═══ Use Arc to create an object which is a section of an ellipse or circle. When initially created, it is a section of a circle, but the shape can be changed using the Rotate and Scale functions. The Arc tool appears as the semi-circle shape on the Tollbar. An arc is created with a default set of characteristics include line color, line style, line width, fill color, fill style, shadow style, and arc closing. To create an arc: 1. Click on the Arc icon on the Toolbar. 2. Click mouse button 2 to set the center point of your shape. 3. Drag the mouse pointer to the desired width of the arc shape. 4. Click mouse button 2 to set the first end point. 5. Drag the mouse pointer to the desired angle of the arc. 6. Click mouse button 2 to set the second end point. Note: If Arc Closing is set to None and a fill pattern is specified, a pie shape is filled with the pattern, but the straight pie sides are not drawn in (in a pie chart, for example). ═══ 9. Line ═══ Use Line to change the appearance of objects created using Line from the Toolbar. Line options are:  Color  Style  Width To use Line options: 1. Click mouse button 2 over the object you want to change. 2. Choose Line from the popup menu. 3. Click on the desired option. Note: The Color option will display the Part background color dialog box. To choose a line color, click once on the desired color within the grid provided. Click OK to return to your document. ═══ 10. Fill ═══ Use Fill to change the appearance of space within objects created from the Toolbar. Fill options are:  Color  Style To use Fill options: 1. Click mouse button 2 over the object you want to change. 2. Choose Fill from the popup menu. 3. Click on the desired option. Note: The Color option will display the Part background color dialog box. To choose a fill color, click once on the desired color within the grid provided. Click OK to return to your document. ═══ 11. Shadow ═══ Use Shadow to change the appearance of space within objects created from the Toolbar. To use Shadow options: 1. Click mouse button 2 over the object you want to change. 2. Choose Shadow from the popup menu. 3. Click on the desired option from the list provided. ═══ 12. Arc ═══ Use Arc to change the type of closure used when creating objects using the Arc tool from the Toolbar. Arc options are:  None  Chord  Pie To use Arc options: 1. Click mouse button 2 over the object you want to change. 2. Choose Arc from the popup menu. 3. Click on the desired option. Note: The None option creates arcs as incomplete spheres. ═══ 13. Background ═══ Use Background to change the background color of the active Graphics component, whether it is the root component or an embedded component. To change background color: 1. Click mouse button 2 over the active Graphics component. 2. Click once on the desired color within the grid provided. 3. Click OK to return to your document. ═══ Background ═══ Use Background to change the background appearance of the active Graphics component. You can set the background to be color only, or you can add a bitmap from the OS/2 system. You may create your Graphics objects over the color or bitmap. Note: Background color and bitmaps will only print as component of your document if your printer is capable of printing color and graphics. For a detailed explanation of Background options, see the list below:  Color only  Tile bitmap  Stretch bitmap  Background color ═══ 14. Color Only ═══ Use Color Only to set the Graphics component background to only accept color. Note: No bitmaps can be added into your background when this option is selected. ═══ 15. Tile bitmap ═══ Choose Tile bitmap to enable your Graphics component to accept a bitmap from the OS/2 system as a background. Tile bitmap causes the bitmap you have chosen to appear as tiled within your background. You may create your Graphics objects over this bitmap. ═══ 16. Stretch bitmap ═══ Choose Stretch bitmap to enable your Graphics component to accept a bitmap from the OS/2 system as a background. Stretch bitmap causes the bitmap you have chosen to appear as as a single image fit to the size of your background. You may create your Graphics objects over this bitmap. ═══ 17. Refresh ═══ Use Refresh to redraw the object you have most recently created within the Graphics component. ═══ 18. Hide Toolbar ═══ Use Hide Toolbar to prevent the Toolbar from displaying on your screen. Once this option is chosen, the menu bar option will display Show Toolbar. ═══ 19. Show Toolbar ═══ Use Show Toolbar to display the Toolbar on your screen alongside the Graphics component after it has been hidden using Hide Toolbar. Once this option is chosen, the menu bar option will display Hide Toolbar. Note: The default setting for the Graphics component is for the Toolbar to be displayed at all times. ═══ 20. Show Links ═══ Use Show Links to display highlighted frames around linked objects or embedded components within an active Graphics component. When Show Links is chosen a red border will appear around the link source and a blue border will appear around the link target. Use Hide Links to prevent the borders from appearing on your screen. ═══ 21. Show Handles ═══ Use Show Handles to display sizing and moving handles on a selected graphics object. Note: These handles are not the same handles which appear in the border of a selected component. They will only appear around a single drawn object. ═══ Rotate ═══ Use Rotate to turn a selected object and set it at a new angle. To rotate an object: 1. Click and hold mouse button 2 on rotation handle. 2. Move the mouse pointer to the desired angle. 3. Release mouse button 2. 4. Click mouse button 1 outside of selected area to end rotation. ═══ 22. Align ═══ Use Align to force a selected object within the Graphics component to be flush against a margins. Choose Left to put the object flush against the left side of the Graphics component area. ═══ 23. Embed backgrounds ═══ Use Embed backgrounds to determine how an object's background is refreshed within the system. Opaque causes the background to be shown on the screen each time the component is opened. Transparent causes the background to be invisible when a component is opened. Note: Choosing Transparent does not delete a selected background. Choose Opaque to see a background after Transparent has been chosen. ═══ 24. Layering ═══ Use Layering to create the effect of depth among multiple objects within a Graphics component. Choose Move To Front to move a selected object on top of all other objects in the window. Choose Move To Back to move a selected object behind all other objects in the window. ═══ 25. Grouping ═══ Use Grouping to group all Graphics component objects together. Editing on these objects must then be done as if they were a single object. Choose Form Group to create a grouping of objects. Choose Dissolve Group to undo a grouping of objects. ═══ 26. Freeze ═══ Use Freezing to make a selected object or Graphics embed unavailable for editing or moving within a Graphics component. Once frozen, an object will not be disturbed by editing and moving of objects around it. Choose Freeze Objects to freeze an object in place. Choose Un-Freeze Objects to make a frozen object available for editing and moving. ═══ 27. General Help ═══ The Graphics component is a drawing tool you can use to design line drawings, shaded areas, and various types of bar graphs. The Graphics component does not allow you to edit bitmaps or other scalable photographic images. These require the OpenDoc Multimedia component Image Viewer. The Toolbar provides the functions needed to create new designs. It is automatically visible when the Graphics component is active, but can be hidden from display. The Toolbar drawing options are:  Line  Polyline  Rectangle  Box  Ellipse  Arc Once you have created an object, use the pulldown menu and the popup menus (accessible by clicking on a selected Graphics object) to edit the drawing. ═══ 28. 2D Graphics Part information ═══ Select 2D Graphics Part information to view a panel giving the component name, copyright date, and version number for the Graphics component. This panel does not connect to any further function. Click on the OK button once you have recorded the information you need. ═══ 29. OpenDoc information ═══ Select OpenDoc information to view a panel giving the component name, copyright date, and version number for OpenDoc. This panel does not connect to any further function.
