═══ 1. PmBrowse Main Window ═══ Welcome to the PmBrowse Help Facility. Help is available on all aspects of PmBrowse. Every window presented to you by the PmBrowse program contains either a Help menu pull-down or a Help button. Select Help whenever you are unclear about a particular aspect of PmBrowse or if you would like additional information. Each window of the PmBrowse program has different help information associated with it. If you are unclear what a particular control does, highlight it then press the F1 function key to receive information about that particular control. ═══ 2. PmBrowse Search Facility ═══ PmBrowse provides a facility for searching the currently browsed file for a given string. To search for a string, enter it in the entry field and press the OK button. Options for the search may be set in the Options area. Options include: o Case sensitive search If checked, the string will be searched for in a case sensitive manner. o Reverse search If checked, PmBrowse will search the current file in the reverse direction. ═══ 3. PmBrowse Font Facility ═══ PmBrowse provides a facility for selecting the font for use when browsing files. Not only can the font be selected, but you may also specify the size of the font and the type of the font. The Font list contains all fonts installed on your system. Refer to the OS/2 User's Guide for further information regarding the installation of additional fonts if needed. The Size list contains all the sizes supported by the selected Font. As expected, larger sizes produce larger fonts and smaller sizes produce smaller fonts. The Type group contains many font types or attributes that can be selected when displaying the fonts. ═══ 4. PmBrowse Color Facility ═══ PmBrowse provides a facility for selecting the colors for many of the fields of the browse window. You may specify the Foreground and Background attributes of each Field of the PmBrowse window. The current settings of a selected field is displayed in the Sample Text area. ═══ 5. PmBrowse Print Facility ═══ PmBrowse provides a facility for printing the currently browsed file. When printing a file, select the desired printer from the Available Printers list then press the OK button. It is assumed that the printers listed are text-capable printers. PmBrowse will report any errors it might have copying the file to the specified printer. ═══ 6. Enter New File Name ═══ Enter a file name to be browsed in the entry field. Note: You must enter the file name in a fully-qualified manner if not in the current subdirectory. ═══ 7. Open ═══ The Open dialog is the standard open-file dialog. It is used to select a file for browsing. If you have any questions about any of the entry fields of list boxes, simply select them and press F1 for further help. ═══ 7.1. control ═══ A control is any device within a window which gives information or allows you to select or edit options. It is a general term for describing such devices as list boxes, buttons, entry fields, radio buttons, check boxes, etc. ═══ 7.2. File ═══ The File pull-down contains menu items for loading files to browse, opening a new browse window, printing a browsed file, copying marked text to the PM clipboard, removing a file from a browse window, closing a browse window, and exiting PmBrowse. ═══ 7.3. New file... ═══ Select the New file... menu item when you wish to load a new file for browsing. If the OPENDLG.DLL file (part of the OPENDLG PACKAGE from OS2TOOLS) is in a directory specified along your LIBPATH you will be presented with a fully functional Open File dialog in which you may enter the name of the file to be browsed or look through your system for the file to browse. If OPENDLG.DLL is not present along the LIBPATH, you will be asked to enter the file name to be browsed in a less elaborate dialog. ═══ 7.4. Open window... ═══ Select the Open window... menu item to create a new browse window. Currently, no more than 15 browse windows can be running simultaneously. However, in reality, you may find that Presentation Manager will not be able to create as many as 15 browse windows before exhausting PM resources. ═══ 7.5. Print file... ═══ Select the Print file... menu item to be prompted for an LPT port in which to print the currently browsed file. It should be noted that dragging the file icon and dropping it on the OS/2 Print Manager will also prompt you for an LPT port in which to print the file. ═══ 7.6. Copy to clipboard ═══ Select the Copy to clipboard menu item to copy the currently marked text to the PM clipboard. A beep will be given once the text has been successfully copied. ═══ 7.7. Clear ═══ Select the Clear menu item to remove the currently browsed file from the browse window. This will leave you with an empty browse window. ═══ 7.8. Close window ═══ Select the Close window menu item to close or terminate the current browse window. ═══ 7.9. Exit PmBrowse ═══ Select the Exit PmBrowse menu item to terminate all browse windows and exit PmBrowse. ═══ 7.10. Edit ═══ The Edit pull-down contains many various menu items to be used for finding text strings, copying text to the clipboard, etc. ═══ 7.11. Find... ═══ Select the Find... menu item to be presented with a window into which you may type a string to be searched for. ═══ 7.12. Find next ═══ Once you have found a string, you may search for the next occurence of said string by selecting the Find next menu item. ═══ 7.13. Find previous ═══ Once you have found a string, you may search for the previous occurence of said string by selecting the Find previous menu item. ═══ 7.14. Goto found text ═══ Once you have found a string, you may immediately goto the found string (even if you have scrolled past it) by selecting the Goto found text menu item. ═══ 7.15. Options ═══ The Options pull-down contains many various menu items to be used for setting various PmBrowse options, including Fonts and Colors. ═══ 7.16. Set fonts... ═══ Select the Set fonts... menu item to be presented with a window from which to choose a desired font to be used when browsing files. ═══ 7.17. Set colors... ═══ Select the Set colors... menu item to be presented with a window from which to choose desired color settings to be used when browsing files. ═══ 7.18. Line numbers ═══ Select the Line numbers menu item if you would like line numbers to be displayed when browsing files. Once selected, line numbers will be displayed and a check mark will precede the menu item. Select the menu item again to deactivate the displaying of line numbers. ═══ 7.19. Minimize when dragging ═══ More often then not, when you grab the file icon to drop the currently browsed file onto something, the browse window is covering what you want to drop the file icon on. Select the Minimize when dragging menu item so that when you start dragging the file icon the PmBrowse window will be minimized and therefore out of the way. If you often use drag and drop from PmBrowse then you will find this option very helpful. ═══ 7.20. Beep when file loaded ═══ Files often take a long time to load. Since this is a fact of life, PmBrowse loads large files in the background via a second thread so that you may continue to do productive work while the file is fully loaded. To be notified via a beep when the file is fully loaded, select the Beep when file loaded menu item. ═══ 7.21. Save settings ═══ To save the current PmBrowse settings, including window position and size, select the Save settings menu item. ═══ 7.22. Help ═══ The Help pull-down contains menu items that once selected tell you all you ever wanted to know about the Help Manager and PmBrowse. ═══ 7.23. About... ═══ Select the About... menu item to get information about the version of PmBrowse that you are running. ═══ 7.24. File Icon ═══ The File Icon is part of the PmBrowse window frame and is located in the upper left hand corner of the browse window next to the system menu. The File Icon looks like this: ═══ 7.25. Enter string to be searched for: ═══ Enter the string to be searched for in this entry field. ═══ 7.26. Case sensitive search ═══ If checked, the string will be searched for in a case sensitive manner. ═══ 7.27. Reverse search ═══ If checked, PmBrowse will search the current file in the reverse direction. ═══ 7.28. OK ═══ Press the OK button to search for the specified string. ═══ 7.29. Cancel ═══ Press the Cancel button to leave the search dialog without searching for a string. ═══ 7.30. Font ═══ The Font list contains all fonts installed on your system. Refer to the OS/2 User's Guide for further information regarding the installation of additional fonts if needed. ═══ 7.31. Size ═══ The Size list contains all the sizes supported by the selected Font. As expected, larger sizes produce larger fonts and smaller sizes produce smaller fonts. ═══ 7.32. Italic ═══ Check this type if it is desired that the font be displayed italicized. ═══ 7.33. Underscore ═══ Check this type if it is desired that the font be displayed with an underscore. ═══ 7.34. Strike-out ═══ Check this type if it is desired that the font be displayed in a strike-out fashion (ie. with a line through it). ═══ 7.35. Bold ═══ Check this type if it is desired that the font be displayed in bold. ═══ 7.36. Outline ═══ If the selected font is an ADOBE TM font, then it may be displayed in an outline fashion. ═══ 7.37. OK ═══ Press the OK button to set the font as specified. To save the font selections permanently, make sure to select the Save Settings menu item from the Options pull-down. ═══ 7.38. Cancel ═══ Press the Cancel button to exit the window without changing the current font setting. ═══ 7.39. Color button ═══ Press this button to set the selected Field to the same color as the button. ═══ 7.40. Color button ═══ Press this button to set the selected Field to the same color as the button. ═══ 7.41. Color button ═══ Press this button to set the selected Field to the same color as the button. ═══ 7.42. Color button ═══ Press this button to set the selected Field to the same color as the button. ═══ 7.43. Color button ═══ Press this button to set the selected Field to the same color as the button. ═══ 7.44. Color button ═══ Press this button to set the selected Field to the same color as the button. ═══ 7.45. Color button ═══ Press this button to set the selected Field to the same color as the button. ═══ 7.46. Foreground ═══ Select the Foreground radio button so that changes may be made to the text color of the currently selected field. ═══ 7.56. Background ═══ Select the Background radio button so that changes may be made to the background color of the currently selected field. ═══ 7.57. Fields ═══ The Fields list contains all the different PmBrowse window fields or areas. Each field corresponds to a different part of the PmBrowse window. The Fields are: o Plain Text This field corresponds to the normal text displayed by the PmBrowse window. o Marked Text This field corresponds to marked text displayed by the PmBrowse window. Text is marked when found after performing a search operation or by the user with the mouse. o Line Numbers PmBrowse has the ability to display line numbers when displaying text. You may also set the color of this line number field. o Status Window The Status Window is really not a window at all, but is instead part of the PmBrowse window frame. It is located in the upper right hand area of the PmBrowse window and is used to display line number and other information. ═══ 7.58. Use Defaults ═══ To set all fields to their default values, press the Use Defaults button. ═══ 7.59. OK ═══ Press the OK button to activate color selections. To save the color selections permanently, make sure to select the Save Settings menu item from the Options pull-down. ═══ 7.60. Cancel ═══ Press the Cancel button to exit the window without changing the current color settings. ═══ 7.61. Printer Ports ═══ The Printer Ports list contains all ports from LPT1 through LPT9. PmBrowse makes no attempt to determine if a printer is actually connected to any of the listed ports. ═══ 7.62. OK ═══ Press the OK button to copy the file to the selected port. ═══ 7.63. ID_CANCEL_BUTTON ═══ Press the Cancel button to exit the window without printing the file. ═══ 7.64. Enter name of file to browse ═══ Enter the fully-qualified file name to be browsed in this entry field. ═══ 7.65. OK ═══ Press the OK button to browse the specified file. ═══ 7.66.
