═══ 1. ═══ Creating (Why?...) You'll create a workfolder. This will enable you to create other objects, search for them in the TeamConnection database, and collect them in a central place -- the workfolder itself. The first object you'll create after the workfolder will be a relational system object. It's a prerequisite for creating a DB2/390 table in the final step of this lesson. Steps 1.1 Creating a workfolder 1.2 Creating a relational system object 1.3 Creating a DB2/390 table object ═══ 2. ═══ Double-click the Workfolders icon in the DataAtlas Main Folder window. Result: The Workfolder notebook closes, your newly defined workfolder is created in the TeamConnection database, and it opens, ready for use. In this step you'll add a shareable data structure (SDS) to the included source definition CUSTOMER.CPY, which you populated in Lession 2.3. In the PRACTICE workfolder, double-click the icon for the CUSTOMER.CPY included source definition. Result: Its notebook opens to the Tree View page. The tree view shows that DataAtlas defined the entire data structure as an SDS when the COPY file was populated. The name of the structure, CUSTOMER-ALL, was taken from the 01-level of the COPY file. DataAtlas always creates an SDS for a populated group item, even if you do not use the reconcile process. Click the icon for CUSTOMER-ALL. Result: The controls for manipulating it appear to the right. We will update this included source definition by modifying CUSTOMER-ALL, the SDS that defines it. Click Open. Result: The notebook for the SDS opens to its Tree View page. Examine the tree diagram of CUSTOMER-ALL. You see many SDEs and two data structures that contain address elements. One structure is for a shipping address; the other is for a billing address. Three of the SDEs are for data about a customer contact: CONTACT, CONTACT-PHONE, and CONTACT-FAX. No structure exists to hold address data for the customer contact. We will create this useful addition as an SDS and make it part of CUSTOMER-ALL. Leave the CUSTOMER-ALL notebook open and reactivate the PRACTICE workfolder. In it, click Workfolder on the menu bar; then click Create object. Result: The Create Object window opens. Select 'Shareable Data Structure' from the scrollable list; then click Create. Result: The notebook for a shareable data structure opens to the General page. Enter the name 'CONTACT-ADDRESS' in the Name field. In the Variation and Revision fields, enter names of your choice -- character strings that will uniquely identify this SDS. Go to the Tree View page. Make sure the Elementary radio button is selected; then click Add child. Result: A local element with the default name 'FILLER' is added to the tree. On the right side of the page, the controls for defining the new element appear. Check the Use existing shareable data element box. Result: The Search button is enabled. You can now look for an SDE to connect to the new child. Click Search. Result: The TeamConnection Database - Search notebook opens, preset to search for the object type 'Shareable Data Element'. Click Search. Result: The search begins. When it concludes, the TeamConnection Database - Search Results window opens with a list of shareable data elements. Select the element named 'DA_Street'; then click OK. Result: The name 'FILLER' is replaced by 'DA_Street'. In the Name field below the SDE search box, delete the 'DA_' suffix. Result: The name of the new element becomes 'Street' in the tree diagram. 'Street' is now an alias for 'DA_Street'. Creating an alias is optional. You can do it whenever you prefer another name to the SDE name. Repeat steps 8 through 13 to define four more elements of CONTACT-ADDRESS and connect them to SDEs. The repetitions will differ in only two ways: you'll now use the Add sibling button to create new elements; you'll select a different SDE from the Team Connection Database - Search Results window each time. These are the SDEs to select in turn: o DA_City o DA_Country o DA_Zip o DA_ZipFormat Click OK to close the CONTACT-ADDRESS notebook. Result: The Store window opens. You'll use them as you progress through these lessons: 1. Creating You'll create a workfolder, a relational system object, and a DB2/390 table object. 2. Populating You'll populate the Team Connection database with an IMS DBD and a DB2 UDB table definition. 3. Updating Using your workfolder, you'll search for objects in the TeamConnection database and update them. 4. Generating You'll generate an updated definition to a workstation file. 5. Querying You'll modify a supplied SQL query and find a needed object in the TeamConnection database. 6. Designing You'll create indexes and storage devices for a DB2/390 table as part of the physical database design for your DB2/390 database. 7. Deleting You'll delete all the DB2/390 objects that you created in this tutorial. You'll learn best if you take all the lessons in their numbered order. Each of the first four lessons depends on the lessons that come before it. Lesson 5 depends only on Lesson 2; Lesson 6 depends only on Lesson 1. Lesson 7 depends on Lessons 1 and 6. The steps of each lesson should take no more than 15 minutes to complete. ═══ 12. ═══ In this tutorial, users will create objects and populate objects in the TeamConnection database.
