Instructions: C-Quest Demonstration/Evaluation Version - 32-bit This demo utilizes 32-bit technology and may run on either WinNT or Win95 systems. For licensed users, there are two versions, 16-bit and 32-bit. System requirements are a minimum of 8 meg RAM, 12 or more is recommended. INSTALLATION: CAUTION!!!: Make sure no applications are running, especially Microsoft Office Manager (the Office toolbar). If you have MS Office in your startup group, then the office manager is running. Close the Office Manager by selecting the control menu on the toolbar, then CLOSE. 1. The file CQT20E32.ZIP is composed of all the setup files normally distributed on 3 diskettes. 2. Place the CQT20E32.ZIP file in a temporary directory. Unzip the file with Winzip, pkunzip, or any other compatible unzipping utility. 3. Run the program SETUP.EXE that is in the temporary directory. 4. Please read the instructions for Using the Trial Copy, below. 5. Help files are included for each program. Since no user guide is provided with the free demonstration version, it is suggested that you read the help files. If you have any questions, please give us a call or send us email. C-Quest: Test Authoring & Administration Software WELCOME to the demonstration version of C-Quest db and C-Quest Test. The licensed versions both include printed user guides. To enable us to provide free demos, those guides are not included. However, the complete Help files are included. To access the help files, enter the program (C-Quest db or C-Quest Test). Select the Help menu or press F1 at any time. The help files may also be opened by double-clicking on the filename from File Manager (Win 3.1) or Explorer (Win95). Any topic in the help files may be printed by selecting the print options within the Help System. For Windows 3.x this option is under the help menu: File | Print Topic. In Windows95, there is a Print button on the toolbar. Restrictions (& Differences) of the Demonstration Version: The demo is fully functional, except that password protection has been removed for your convenience. 1. Time/Run limits. The trial copy will run for 30 days. 2. The welcome screen provides entry into both programs. With the licensed version, the two programs are separate. This allows you to place C-Quest Test (test administration) on a different computer than C-Quest db. Running the Programs: Overview: C-Quest db is used to create question databases. Tests are constructed by designating a test name then placing existing questions on that test. Questions may be automatically be assigned to a default test (See Help for instructions). Once tests are created, they can be printed with C-Quest db. Or, for interactive tests, they can be administered through C-Quest Test. With this program, responses to the test are saved along with other test information. The student receives a score at completion of the test. Reports are available on the data accumulated during the testing process. C-Quest db: Suggested Order of Events: 1. When the main screen appears, select the Open File button. Open the file SIGNALS.CQD. The entry/edit screen will appear. 2. Select Help: Select Working With Files, then Structuring the Data and Tests: Read this section. 3. Browse through the questions (Right and Left Arrows below the Answers). Notice the test assignment boxes and the picture. When a picture appears, double-click on it to view the exact size. 4. Select button 2-Notes on the left of the screen. This shows additional fields. 5. Select button 5-Tests to see how questions are placed on tests or how to work with tests. Read the Help Section: Entering & Editing Questions, then Test Management for an explanation of this screen. 6. Select button 7-Table to get a table view of all questions. Note that as you pause the mouse over a button, an explanation appears in blue. 7. Select button 6-Print to take a look at the print options. 8. If you have MS-Word, you can try the Spell Check button. C-Quest Test: Suggested Order of Events: Take a Sample Test: Select C-Quest Test, then Take Tests. Open a file and select a test. For the trial version the student IDs 11111 and JJJohnson are already entered. Select the Begin button. Answer questions, browsing back and forth until you are done. Click the Finish button. You may change fonts and set autoadvance options from the Options menu. The following FILES demonstrate different test options: Signals.cqd contains three tests, no specific options are set. This demonstrates multiple choice and short answer questions. Feedback.cqd contains one test with options set to show if answer is correct and provide hints. (When Practice Test is selected) Randopts.cqd is set to randomly generate a test from questions in the database. 2. Look at some Test Data Select Instructor Utilities Select Test Reports Choose a test from the Test dropdown box (click down arrow) Look at the Overview Report Look at the Test History, Test Response & Export data options. Play with the Size and Sort buttons (explanations appear in blue) 3. Look at the Options screen (Set Options on Instructor Utilities screen) The Practice options take effect only when the student has selected "Practice Test" from the Test Selection screen. If "Actual Exam" was selected, the practice test options are ignored. The Randomization options are used to generate a different set of questions each time the test is taken. 4. Look at the Student Info screen. You can view student test history from this screen as well as from the Test Reports screen. 5. The File Management utility offers a convenient way to copy tests from one file to another. See File Management in the Help File, for an explanation. 6. Play around with taking more tests and viewing the Test Reports. You might want to set different practice options, then experiment with test taking. The C-Quest demo is a 16-bit program. There are both 32-bit and 16-bit licensed versions available. A NEW add-on program to enable distributed testing/surveying is now availabe (C-Quest Echo). This allows you to send a test/survey to another via diskette or email. The recipient will take the test on the computer and return the response file to you. This file may then be imported into the Test/Response database, for reporting and analysis. Sample Echo tests may be downloaded from our website.
