TIMELOGGER ========== Thank you for chosing to evaluate TimeLogger. INTRODUCTION ------------ TimeLogger is a program that tracks billable time by recording events. It is designed for the professional who must track billable time but has little time during the heat of battle to think about what customer and project to charge the time to. This program is distributed as shareware. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ------------------- o 486SX with 8MB RAM (16MB for NT) o 6MB free disk space for installation o Windows NT 3.51, Windows 95 INSTALLATION ------------ To install this program, extract the contents of the archive to a temporary empty directry and run the setup.exe program found therein. It will copy all the files to the directory of your choice, after which, you may delete the contents of the temporary directory. Storing Data on Interbase: By default, this program stores its data in Paradox files. You can, however, opt to have it store its data on an Interbase server. To do so, you must: 1. Create a database and define the proper tables. An SQL script (TimeLogger.SQL) has been provided with the installation for this purpose. If you wish, you can define the tables in an already existing database. 2. Change the BDE alias "TimeLogger" to point to the Interbase database using the BDE configuration utility that was installed with TimeLogger. Use the following parameters: Type = INTRBASE BATCH COUNT = 200 ENABLE BCD = FALSE ENABLE SCHEMA CACHE = FALSE MAX ROWS = -1 OPEN MODE = READ/WRITE SCHEMA CACHE SIZE = 8 SCHEMA CACHE TIME = -1 SERVER NAME = SQLPASSTHRU MODE = SHARED AUTOCOMMIT Storing Data on Other Servers You may be able to store data in DBase files, SQL Server or any ODBC source, but you're on your own. I've only tested Paradox and Interbase. RESTRICTIONS ------------ The shareware version of TimeLogger has the following restrictions: 1. Reports always contain a shareware notice in the title. 2. You cannot add more than 200 events. Please read the license agreement which can be found in license.txt after installation. NOTES AND WARNINGS ------------------ The installation also installs the Borland Database Engine and creates the directory C:\IDAPI for it. It also tries to set up the TimeLogger alias. If you already have the BDE on your system, you should back up your IDAPI.CFG file before installing this program. WARNING: If you re-install this program, it will wipe out any data you have saved. You can avoid this by following these steps: 1) There is a subdirectory called DATA off of the directory in which you installed TimeLogger. By default, this would be C:\Program Files\LCA\TimeLogger\Data. Copy all the files in this directory to another directory. 2) Re-install TimeLogger. 2) Change the TimeLogger alias to point to the new directory using the BDE configuration utility that was installed with TimeLogger. If you have changed the alias to point to an Interbase server, then this warning does not apply. BACKING UP YOUR DATA -------------------- It is highly recommended that you back up you data files frequently. If you're using Paradox, back up all the files in the DATA directory off of the directory in which you installed TimeLogger. If you're using Interbase, use the backup utility that comes with that product. CONTACTING LCA -------------- If you have any questions or suggestions, please send E-Mail to sschafer@netw.com.
