MIDI Setup for SMS MusicMaker ============================= If you have trouble setting up MIDI for MusicMaker you should read this file. SMS MusicMaker needs the Midi-Mapper, a part of the Windows system software to run properly. Usually the MIDI-Mapper is already set up on your computer after you have installed your soundcard. However, if you get a Messagebox saying that the MIDI-Mapper could not be found you should try to restart your computer and then run MusicMaker. The installer program puts an entry into the SYSTEM.INI file telling Windows to use the MIDI-Mapper. The SYSTEM.INI file is only read by Windows at startup, so restarting Windows is necessary in that case. If you still get a Messagebox saying that the MIDI-Mapper could not be found then the actual driver file for MIDI-Mapper is missing on your computer. If that's the case then get the file named MIDIMAP.DRV from your Windows installation disks and install it via Control Panel->Drivers. You will also get this message if you are using an ivalid Midimap (a Midimap which has entries that refer to a not currently installed sound device). If you run SMS MusicMaker without MIDI-Mapper it will use the first MIDI device it can find. That may well be the external port of your soundcard. In that case you will hear no MIDI sound unless you connect an external MIDI divice to your soundcard.
