Adding List Items

Add List Items Window

You'll see the Add List Items window when you choose the Add Item to List menu pick or button. Remember that you can enter information to any field for any item, even if that column is not currently displayed for a list.

Name is the name of the list item, and is required for every item.

Amount stores the value of the Amount field. This value must be a valid numeric value and may contain a decimal point. Remember that you can also set up your list to ask you for amounts when you flag an item for a Two-Step (Shopping) List, or check an item. Set this up in List Properties. Amount values are always optional.

Units is the unit associated with the amount, such as dollars, pounds, gallons, cups or minutes. You can choose an item in the Units list, or enter any other value. To add units values, just enter one into the list -- it will then be available for the rest of that list. Units are optional, and are not required if you use Amount.

Category can be any text value. Choose a category from the list or add a new one. To add a Category, just enter the information into the list -- it will then be available for the rest of that list. Categories can be used to sort or filter the items on your list. Category information is always optional.

Priority can be any number. Choose a priority number from the list or enter one in. Priority is always optional.

Notes lets you add any additional information for this item. Notes can also be used to sort or filter the items on your list. Notes information is always optional.

Use the OK button to add a new item and close the window. Use the Add Item button to add multiple items without closing the dialog box after each.

Positioning List Items

Items will be added to your list following the currently selected list item, if the list has not been sorted. If the list has been sorted, added items will be positioned according to the current sort order.

You can use the Remove Sorting pick on the View menu to remove any sorting and allow you to control the order of list items with the arrow tools or the Move Item Up and Move Item Down menu picks. All the list items must be showing on the screen (that is, that Don't Show Checked Items and Show Only Flagged Items cannot be checked) before you can reposition any list items. You must also remove any filters before you can reposition any list items.
