Extensive selection of client and server applications are provided with Exceed 5 for Windows 95,
all of which are fully integrated into Windows 95. These applications include graphical FTP file
transfer, Email, terminal emulation including TN3270, News reader, and other network utilities. Applications
can be launched using Launch Pad, Hummingbird's unique user programmable menuing facility, and a fully
functional BASIC language Workbench is included for writing scripts to automate repetitive tasks.
Server TCP/IP application programs include the Internet service daemon (Inetd) for Windows
which conserves PC resources by starting and stopping daemons only when required. Inetd provides the Windows
POC platform with the functionality of a UNIX workstation enabling peer-to-peer connectivity among PC workstations (LAN or WAN)
by implementing server functions for TCP/IP-based applications, which include" FTPd, Fingerd, LPD,
Xstartd & Telnetd to support multiple Telnet sessions.
Terminal Emulation: Telnet & TN3270
Multiple terminal emulations include Telnet which
supports VT320/220/100/52 with scripting to automate the log sequence. The graphical keyboard remapping
feature permits the user to customize the keyboard, and other features include copy & paste,
scroll back buffes, and local printing.
TN3270 IBM mainframe terminal emulation supporting 3278 and 3279 includes support for extended
attribute mode, copy and paste, keyboard remapping, and color support. In addition, support is provided for
IND$FILE file transfer, and HLLAPI programming.
FTP File Transfer
A graphical drag-and-drop FTP (File Transfer Protocol) application allows users to simply transfer binary and text
files between a PC and a remote computer. File and directory management on the PC and the remote
computer can be performed and scripting capabilities allow for the development of customized
FTP applications, and connection to Internet Anonymous FTP servers is supported.
Electronic Mail
Exceed 5 for Windows 95 features a SMTP (Simple mail Transfer Protocol) Email application
allowing the user to send and receive electronic mail from the PC through a mail server, supporting
POP2 & POP3 (Post Office Protocol). Messages can include binary files through MIME (Multiple Internet
Mail Extension) or UUencode/UUdecode.
News Reader
A threaded Network News reader provides simple and fast access to thousands of USENET news groups,
user groups, mail lists, and other services all over the world, allowing the user to read and post messages
to any NNTP News Server on any topic.
Exceed Basic Scripting
Hummingbird Exceed is the first PC X server product to include a fully functional BASIC language
implementation for building sophisticated and powerful administration scripts. With
support for the X protocol, FTP, TN3270, and Telnet, virtually any administrative task can be
launched from an icon. A graphical dialog box editor and debugging tools are included.
