The 'Jongg CD: ==================================================================== Special Programs: ==================================================================== MAKETILE.EXE: Run this program to make tilesets for Morejongg. VIEWER.EXE and VIEWER95.EXE: These viewer programs are ideal for viewing images full screen, particularly the many stunning backgrounds that come with the MoraffWare CD ROM. Click a single button and instantly turn any image into the desktop background! To run this program, just run 'VIEWER' or 'VIEWER95' from the moraff games directory on your hard drive. TECHIE.EXE (Personal Technician for Windows '95): This is a quick and easy reference program that explains how to create icons and shortcuts, change resolutions, move files, and much more. It talks to you, and shows you step by step pictures of everything. To run this program, click 'Start' and 'Run' and type 'd:\techie" if the D drive is your CD ROM. CHECKMEM.EXE: This little utility will tell you how much RAM and virtual memory you have, and how much you have used. It will also tell you what resolution your screen is set for. The maketile and viewer programs are located in the moraff directory on your hard drive. Techie is located in the root directory of the CD ROM. Checkmem is located everywhere. DOSGAMES: There is a directory called DOSGAMES on the CD ROM that contains the whole line of MoraffWare DOS games. The games need to be copied to your hard drive to run. They are not compressed, so simply copy them over to your hard drive and run them. These are very old games, and are present only because some of our customers are in the middle of one of them and want to be able to finish the game. ==================================================================== More backgrounds and tilesets: ==================================================================== MORETILS directory: This directory includes about 100 more tilesets for the Morejongg game. This directory is attached to the root directory of the CD ROM, instead of the moraff directory. If you copy the games completely to your hard drive, you may still want to get these other tilesets from the CD ROM. BACKGRNS directory: This directory contains over 200 more backgrounds for use in most of the games. It is also attached to the root directorym and not the moraff directory. MORAFF: This contains the complete versions of the 16 game collection, taking about 50 Megs. The Install routine will by default use this directory as the main MoraffWare directory. ==================================================================== The DOSGAMES Directory: ==================================================================== Here are the instructions for installing the DOS games. To copy MoraffWare DOS games to a hard drive (Using XCOPY): 1) From the DOS prompt, type ‘C:’ to install the games on the C drive. 2) Type ‘MD MW’ to create a directory named MW. 3) Type 'CD MW' to enter that directory. 4) Type 'XCOPY D:\DOSGAMES /S' if your CD ROM drive is your D drive. This will create subdirectories automatically under the MW directory. The DOS collection will take about 4 megs of hard drive space. WORLD AND UNFORGIVEN NOTE: To upgrade existing versions of World or Unforgiven, simply copy the new version right on top of the old version. For example, if your old Unforgiven characters are in the C:\UNF directory, you would change your dos prompt to C:\UNF, and from that prompt you would type ‘XCOPY D:\DOSGAMES\UNFORGIV’. Then overwrite all files, and your old characters will still be there, but in the new version. ==================================================================== How the Windows games Install actually works: ==================================================================== The Install program actually does very little on this CD. First, it creates a directory on your hard drive to install into. Then it creates a file called 'cdpath.txt', which contains the path to your CD ROM drive. For example, if your CD ROM drive is your D drive, cdpath.txt would contain: 'D:\moraff\'. Then the Install program copies the files containing everything needed to run the games from the CD ROM. These files are contained in the directories 'ext_mwn2' and 'ext_mwn3' on the CD ROM. If you have difficulty installing the games, you can create your own cdpath.txt and copy the files from the appropriate directory. If you install to run from your hard drive, the install program simply copies all of the files needed to run the games to your hard drive. There is no 'setup', no changes to your Windows directory or autoexec.bat or config.sys. ==================================================================== Troubleshooting: ==================================================================== You get an Abort, Retry, or Fail (or similar) error when trying to read the CD ROM drive: Try turning your machine off and start again. Sometimes CD ROM's get confused and restarting them makes them forget that they are confused. If you get this error a lot, call (800) 842-4263 and ask for a replacement. The menu does not pop up in Memory Jiggler or Radiation: This is usually caused by programs like the Microsoft Office 95 Toolbar, which apparently won't allow the mouse into the upper left corner of the screen. We have added the 'M' key feature to get around this problem. Simply press 'M' on the keyboard to pop up the menu. The menu pops up in the middle instead of on top: You probably have an ATI or similar video card with a bug in the driver. You'll have to run the games in 'Normal Screen' mode. Get there by clicking on 'Help' on the menu, then use the arrows on the keyboard to move through the menus, until you get to the heading 'Options', then 'Screen Mode', then select 'Normal Screen'. Do not use the mouse after you click on 'Help', because as you move it, weird things will happen. Just use curson keys and hit 'Enter' when 'Normal Screen' becomes highlighted. Once you have a normal menu, you can click on 'Options' and 'Save Options' so that you don't have to go through this again. This applies to all games that have this problem. The machine crashes while loading a game in Windows '95: Try running the game directly off of the CD ROM in the 'moraff' directory. If this yields the same problem, try running the regular Windows version from the CD ROM. If this works, you can re-install the CD, and tell it that you have Windows 3.1, and put it into a different directory from the Windows '95 installation. Then simply run the regular Windows 3.1 version of the problem game. This problem is actually often caused by a badly written Windows '95 driver in your system. In some cases drivers like 'wswpd.exe' for the Panasonic laser printer, will chew up much of the CPU's time, causing the Windows 3.1 version of a program to actually run faster than the Windows '95 version. This is because the Windows '95 versions allow the CPU to attend to to other tasks more frequently than the Windows 3.1 drivers.
