Thanks for this and the original reply (and John Lord) I tried the URL you
posted but it didnt work - page not found error.

Anyway, I have now disconnected the CDRW from the system and reinstalled the
two CD-ROMS.

The CDRW would only opperate if it was set to PIO0 in the ata3prefs program
so obviously there isnt much point using it at that setting, however, if I
set the CD-ROMs to PIO4 (Thier Max) they are recognised fine and work
without a problem!

If I set the CDRW at PIO0 Finddevice (of IDEFix'97) would report the drive
info back as:

TEAC CDRW-512EK (or something very simmilier to that) which is correct..
however...

Setting it to PIO4 (or 5 or even 3!) gives something like the following:

T$A" CYF!-51&E

So this is obviously why it isnt reading the drive correctly at these speeds
but does anyone know how to cure this problem? I seem to recall getting
this a long time ago with a CDrom I had and I solved this be shortening the
IDE cables down. I now have UDMA100 cables all over the machine and none
are more than 15" long. Any suggestions on how to get it work correctly
would be appreciated!

(sorry to email this problem again btw, but I have added a little bit more
info this time!)

Thanks,

Sam 'Stom' Thomas
