you must install the 2.4.4 modules into their correct place (read the
docs, they go into /lib/modules/2.4.4
2.4.x modules are different to 2.2.x - they are stored in a different way
and therefore you must upgrade your modutils package. the required package
is located on the http://linux-apus.sourceforge.net site . you'll also
have to update your pppd package if you want to do internet stuff.
the usual rules of how to get proper sound out apply (eg use
video=amifb:off, or make an extra video=amifb:vga and video=map:000011
and change to console 5 or 6, back to console 1 and then use sound stuff)
this sort of thing really is best dealt with on the APUS list.
