No, the Mask value is usually correct.

That sounds more like a bad block on the drive, rather than corupt data.
You shouldn't have any trouble reading data that's been written when the
MaxTransfer was too high, is just won't be the same data you wrote. This
only applies to files larger than the buffer size of the HD, usually 64K
or 128K.
