games consoles do this business far better..and far far cheaper ;-)

uh huh....so why do you think we ARENT having nVidia cards? its not
because we DONT want them, its because we CANT have them. nVidia are not a
coperative gfx company. They have supplied CLOSED drivers for Linux (x86
only a.t.m.) the only other support the are giving is for the new Mac G4's
(and that was a multimillion dollar agreement so they could overtake ATI
in the 'largest market share' segment). The only other supplier was HAD a
chnace with was 3Dfx...but, of course, they were bought out by nVidia
(who promptly removed all development, support and 1/2 of the engineers)

ALSO, its not just the speed of the image...we dont ALL want to play the
fastest 3D games (and the GeForce has same league of 2D ratings as most
cards (its all down to the RAMDAC (usually around the 350MHZ mark))
you dont need T&L for 2D games/applications/animations/painting/music
creation etc.......the second factor is image QUALITY.

remember the Amiga custom chipset. when it comes to 2D gaming it can
still pull out a LOT of fancy effects and look damn hot on even an 040.
its a pity the AAA/Hombre was never realised. We'd have had dedicated 3D
gfx >2 years before the 1st-gen cards on the PC (S3-Virge, Voodoo,
PowerVR)
