Release Notes File for PageGate Version 2.09

Changes: (since version 2.08)

  The Ascii interface (GetAscii) has been greatly enhanced in order to
  enable it to scan any number of locations for input files and accept
  files without user information inside the file.
 

Changes: (since version 2.07)

  Users of the GUI interface (NotePager Net) can now use shared network
  user lists as their local user lists

  Microsoft Jet database engine has been upgraded to the latest version
  (version 3.51)

  Significantly reduced processor utilization during modem connections

  Sending messages to numeric pagers using touch tones is now supported

  The bandwith usage of the GUI interface (NotePager Net) has been reduced

  Users of the GUI interface (NotePager Net) can be restricted to their local
  userlist only

  The domain name added to the 'from' field of messages forwarded via email
  is now settable. The default is 'mydomain'

  Fixed problem where mail accounts are not always added correctly when there
  are a large number of mail accounts in MDaemon.

  'Excessive database retries' error messages have been resolved

  Scheduling of multiple dialers has been rewritten and given to the sched
  program.  This will increase the dialer's efficiency and decrease duplicate
  dialing.

  A new version of the web CGI program (webgate.exe) is included.  It supports
  drop-down lists on web pages generated by PageGate

  Improved error handling to compensate for some bugs in the Microsoft Jet
  database engine

*** Here are some important file name changes in PageGate ***

File Name Changes: (since version 1.4)

  PageGate's main database file has been changed from pgedb.mdb to
  pagegate.mdb.  It usually resides in the PageGate program directory.

  The mailbox format file (.mbf) used with the Mdaemon mail server has been
  changed from notepage.mbf to pagegate.mbf.  It resides in the \mdaemon\app
  directory

  The web interface's cgi program's name has changed from web2mail.exe to
  webgate.exe.  It may reside in the \inetpub\cgi-bin directory or any other
  directory you setup.

  All of the above should be handled automaticaly by PageGate upgrade routine.  Please let me know if you have a problem with this.

  NotePager Net's executeable file has changed from NotePagerNet.exe to
  NPNet.exe.

  The new sendpage program for the commandline/ascii interface is
  sendpage.exe.  It's syntax is displayed if it is run without any commandline
  options.

  Anyone that is updating the database directly should be sure to take notice
  of the name change.  In addition PageGate now uses Microsoft's latest
  database engine (the files are part of the download and automatically
  installed).  This may be a problem if you application is written to use an
  older version of MS Access.


Upgrade Information:

  If you are upgrading from an earlier version of PageGate, please use the
  following procedure:

  1)  Make a full backup of your installation!!!

  2)  Uninstall the old version of PageGate by using the 'Add/Remove Programs'
      option in the Windows control panel.  This will uninstall the program
      files, but will leave the data files intact.

  3)  Install PageGate Version 2 using the instructions above.  Be sure to
      specify the same installation directory for version 2 that was used by
      the earlier version of PageGate.

  4)  Run pgadmin.exe (PageGate's Admin program) from PageGate's program
      directory.  This will upgrade PageGate's database file without starting
      the other modules.

  5)  Quit out of PageGate and then start it as usual.
