The Krautstrunk, which developed from the prunted beaker of ‘Schaffhausen type’, was a popular glass in the 14th and at beginning of the 15th century, used mainly for drinking white wine. The glasses were manufactured particularly in western Germany along the Rhine. Krautstrünke were decorated with large glass prunts which gave the green beakers a shape resembling a cabbage stalk. People noted already then that even a drunk’s grip of these glasses holds! Krautstrünke were produced in large quantities and thousands of shards have been recovered in western Germany. There are also finds from different parts of the Nordic Countries, especially from Norway.
