Evelyn Glennie's "Oxygen" Update Source: Peter Olshansky Date of issue: 05-07-1997

Peter (a bepper) mailed the Evelyn Glennie Website to get more info about "Oxygen", a new collaboration of Bj÷rk and Evelyn. This is what he got back from them:

Hi Peter,

Thanks for your email. Oxygen was released by Bj÷rk on a CD single and probably will be released by Bj÷rk's record company but we have no indication at this time of when this will be.

It was an interesting experience working with Bj÷rk. On a personal level we got on very well together. On a professional level Bj÷rk is an excellent musician. With the level of today's technology it is often difficult to tell how talented a musician is within the "pop" industry.

Bj÷rk uses her voice like a musical instrument and does not require the use of digital editing techniques to get it in tune. In fact Oxygen was a single take with no edits. Bj÷rk can't really read music so each take is completely different. This of course really tested Evelyn's improvisational skills. Oxygen is in fact the second released collaboration between Evelyn and Bj÷rk, the first resulted in a track called "My Spine".

At this present time there are no plans for further collaboration.
