Throughout the last 150 years, Rothamsted has made many significant contributions to agricultural science, through its pioneering research on crop nutrition, soil science, pyrethroid insecticides, virology and biometrics. These studies and others have all had an international dimension. It is fitting therefore that Rothamsted International was launched in 1993 - the Station's 150th anniversary - as a major new initiative to further consolidate Rothamsted's position as a world class centre of excellence in agricultural research. Extending the Stations's collaborations with overseas institutions, through increased placements, exchanges and networks, Rothamsted International will advance research on efficient and sustainable agriculture, and provide much needed long-term investment in the training of future researchers and practitioners.
