The RSES is an organisation within the Faculty of Science which is
entirely devoted to postgraduate teaching and research. It offers
courses in the various disciplines of the earth sciences at Honours
(4th-year) level; Geology, Geophysics and Physical Geography. It also
offers graduate diploma courses in geophysics, hydrology, meteorology,
petroleum geology and geochemistry, and volcanology; and has many
students conducting research programmes for the higher degrees of MSc
and PhD. All the university's postgraduate teaching and research in
the earth sciences is done in RSES, including work initiated in the
Departments of Chemistry, Geography, Geology, Mathematics and Physics
prior to 1985. The Antarctic Research Centre and Institute of Geophysics
are included within RSES.
RSES is located in the Cotton building, and enquiries may be directed
to its administrative centre in room CA309, phone 495-5277, or be
addressed to the Chairperson, Research School of Earth Sciences,
Victoria University of Wellington, Box 600, Wellington, New Zealand,
