PIPEX INTERNET AFRICA, SOFT LINE SIGN DISTRIBUTION DEAL

As South Africa's Internet battle hots up, the country's largest service provider Pipex Internet Africa has appointed leading software distributor Soft Line as official distributor of its powerful Internet access software suite, iaWARE.

This is the first time an Internet service provider is utilising software distribution channels to handle distribution of its products, a clear indication of the rapidly growing maturity of the Internet market.

For users to acquire and implement the software easily, it must be packaged and distributed along the same lines as word processors or accounting packages. Pipex Internet Africa were the first local ISP to release an Internet software suite aimed at consu mers in the dial-up market.

Soft Line's dynamic distribution infrastructure has seen its financial software products - Quicken, MYOB and the locally developed Brilliant Accounting software range installed in over 35 000 small and medium business enterprises and homes. Internet relat ed software is set to become the fastest growing segments of the software market.

South Africa is the 15th fastest growing country of the nearly 100 countries connected to the Internet in the number of Internet users. Soft Line's agreement with Pipex Internet Africa enables Soft Line to access this market on the ground floor.
