In the School of Biological Sciences (BIOLS) the life sciences are studied free of the constraints encountered when subjects such as zoology, botany, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry and experimental psychology are separated into discreet departments. The integrated structure of the School has enabled us to develop undergraduate courses and research interests in multidisciplinary areas where progress is most exciting, such as molecular biology and the neurosciences. The School is one of only eight Biological Science departments in the country to receive the highest research rating in the Government's recent research assesment exercise.

Teaching faculty within the School are divided into three main groups - Biochemistry, Biology and Experimental Psychology - but collaboration among groups means that firm demarcations are avoided.
