What the Server is About

The server is part of the AVISO/Altimetry communication system. It provides:

• a point of contact between users, experts and providers for satellite altimetry missions such as TOPEX/POSEIDON,
• information on the available altimeter data.

The main subject covered at present is TOPEX/POSEIDON, a U.S./French satellite mission to map the height of the world's oceans to within a few millimeters and determine their circulation. The server also focuses on the data products: how data are processed and validated, how you can receive them, how scientists are using them.

The server is for:

• Scientists interested in altimeter data, e.g. for assimilation into ocean models,
• Non-altimetry specialists from the broad oceanographic community,
• Anyone interested in satellite altimetry, climatology or oceanography.
