1. News from The Webmaster

The Web Journal chronicles recent changes made to the Webmaster's documents.

Netscape Navigator News provides the latest information about the Netscape's Web Browser.

The University's IT Training Centre offers a range of courses throughout the year for staff and students. Interested callers are referred to the Course Brochure which provides further details.

There is a list of Schools/Departments providing official information about study, research and services.

Details are available of Conferences, Workshops and Seminars taking place at The University of Birmingham.

The Thematic Index, i.e. an index of subject or discipline topics, provides direct links to pages of interest to callers from a wide range of disciplines.

There is also a list of Individuals offering all sorts of information about their personal and academic interests.

The Community Information Providers List gives details of Campus User Groups/SIGs, Student/Staff Societies, Community Projects and Local Schools.

Other Information at Birmingham, provides a list of other information sources. Included are University Central Computing Services, Email Addresses, Phone Numbers and Gopher & File Transfer Servers.

If you wish to search for a document with a particular word in its title, URL or even content, try the Lycos Search Engine at Carnegie Mellon University.

Other interesting and useful search engines are:

UK Yellow Web, eXcite, Yahoo, AltaVista, WebCrawler, InfoSeek, Harvest and the BBC's Internet Yellow Pages.

This section is a bit scrappy! Improvements are on the way.

The principal source of Internet information is at InterNIC where a wealth of material on Information Services, Directory and Database Services and Registration Services is provided by General Atomics, AT&T and Network Solutions, Inc. respectively.

7. Help with Browsing

Netscape News provides the latest news on Netscape.

Help is available on using your World Wide Web Browser if you need it.

World Wide Web callers are recommended to browse the document, A Guide to Good Practice. It discusses some of the situations which may arise when browsing and offers suggestions on how best to deal with them.

The Web Demonstrator is just that!
