RBM1500 Remote Ethernet Bridge&Modem provides an affordable low cost / high
performance complete and compact solution for interconnecting remote LAN segments
to form a single transparent network environment, based on Ethernet and IEEE 802.3
standards. RBM1500 interconnects Ethernet segment over SLIP and internal modem.
The Bridge operates at the data link layer, filtering and forwarding traffic according to
Ethernet addresses. The operation of the Bridge is transparent to all higher level protocols
such as TCP/IP, Novell IPX , DECnet or ISO.
The Bridge uses an automatic self-learning algorithm to build LAN tables of local and
remote nodes. There is no need to preconfigure or load the Bridge's address tables with the
specific Ethernet nodes connected to the LANs. Configuration and operation of the Bridge
is totally automatic and does not require the involvement of an operator or system
manager.
The SiGnet RBM1500 is a low cost, highly reliable, high performance Remote Ethernet
bridge. Its performance is limited only by the speed of the communications link.
CCITT fully compatible modems are options that customer can choose. Modems that
comply the following standards are available:
- V.22/V.22bis 1200/2400 bps
- V.32 4800/9600 bps
- V.32 bis 7,2k/12k/14.4k bps
- V.32 terbo 19,2k bps
- V.FC ( V.34 ) 28,8k bps
including
- V.42 Error Correction ( LAPM ) and
- V.42 bis Data Compression ( up to 4:1)
SiGnet RBM1500 is available with up to 2 Ethernet LAN connections and up to 2 modem
WAN connections.
The SiGnet RBM1500 is a plug and play device. Network configuration is automatic,
enabling simple installation, and operation without operator intervention. No special traning
is needed. Once the RBM1500 is installed, it begins operating automatically. On its front
panel RBM1500 has a LED indication for providing continuous display of LAN activity,
system status and link activity.
