Listings of Hotels, Appartments or Estate Agencies are available for the small fee of $10 for 1 to 3 towns or $15 for 4 to 10 towns. Note: for small towns, a single listing includes the nearby villages: see for example the Barcelonnette listing. All of our listings were verified and updated in Mar-Apr 1999.
Our default listings (if you don't specify otherwise) are for hotels. If you want a list of appartments or agencies, please specify that in the "Comments" part of the online orderform.
Our Appartments listings are not as complete as the hotels listings. Appartments tend to be found only in the larger towns or cities, and the information about them is not consistently available.
The Lodging Listings you select will be sent to you by email. If there are problems with phone or fax numbers, we will verify those numbers for you.
Most hotels do Not have email. If a hotel has email, we list the email number; if none is listed, they probably do not have email.
We are not a hotel booking service. You must contact the hotels yourself to get more detailed information and to book your rooms.

Finding Accommodation in Beyond
-
Method
- 1. Browse the villages and sites in Beyond the French Riviera.
- 2. Find the places that interest you and Order the Lodging Listings (below) for the towns in those areas.
|
We are not a hotel booking service. We do what we can within the context of the Beyond web to help you find the hotels. You must contact the hotels yourself to get more detailed information, and to book your rooms. |
|
|
We do not have brochures, pamphlets or other printed information. |
|
|
Accuracy - Our information is from the French Minitel and from the Offices de Tourisme. We verify the information directly with the different Offices de Tourisme, but mistakes can occur, original information can be wrong, phone/fax numbers can change, and hotels can go out of business. As part of our new service, we will verify any phone/fax numbers that do not appear to work.

Prices - Star Ratings
Hotel star ratings give an idea about the price, but with a wide range.
Three-Star Prices
Aix-en-Provence 3-star 1999-2000 price examples:
- 650-850 F; 625-765 F; 480-520 F; 440-520 F; 300-360 F
Avignon 3-star 1999-2000 price examples:
- 550-595 F; 490-560 F; 440-550 F; 380-930 F; 360-470 F; 325-660 F
Two-Star Prices
We almost always use two-star hotels, and usually pay around 250 FF for a double room. Two-star hotels range roughly between 200-300 FF; smaller towns and rural areas can be as low as 180 FF. Rooms tend to be small by US standards, but clean and civilized.
Tax; TVA; VAT.
Posted rates at shops, hotels and restaurants include value-added-tax (VAT, or TVA in French. In general, the posted price for anything in France is the "TTC" (all taxes included) price. The "HT" (excluding tax) price is only used in a business context.
Seasonal Prices
Some hotels vary their prices by season (most expensive in July-Aug). It's not a method of ripping of tourists. These are usually in areas with little or no tourism off-season, and they need to make their money during just a few months, although they have to eat and pay their rent year-round.
Furnished apartments
Furnished apartments are almost always rented by the week or month. Check out the Gites (below) as a type of furnished apartment.
Gîtes de France
Gites are similar to furnished apartments, usually in rural areas. They're weekly only, and always from Saturday-to-Saturday. [click here for the Gites information page.]
