Pinus pinea

Yes, it really does look like an umbrella (or parasol), open of course. Of the pines here, this is the most coastal. Although it doesn't grow in our true Beyond region, it's so typical of the Mediterranean coast that it's often used as a symbol for the Riviera.

The umbrella pine has been growing here for at least two thousand years, and it often stands low and rugged looking on hills exposed to the winds.

The bark is reddish and cracked and the needles have a gray-green color.
