FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 8, 1994

Dr. Michael A. Bozek has been named Assistant Unit Leader at the Wisconsin Cooperative Fishery Research Unit at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Funding for the position comes from the newly-formed National Biological Survey (NBS).

"Providing better scientific information on fish habitat is an essential part of our mission," said H. Ronald Pulliam, Director of the NBS. "That's why we're so fortunate to have someone of Dr. Bozek's caliber as part of our research staff. His diverse work experience and exceptional performance make him particularly well suited for this new post."

The National Biological Survey, a new bureau in the U.S. Department of the Interior, gathers analyzes and disseminates biological information necessary for good stewardship of natural resources. The information is useful to public and private landowners interested in protecting and using resources and avoiding costly environmental "train wrecks" that can stymie development projects. The NBS is designed to serve as an information clearinghouse and source of solid scientific information for use by local communities, development interests, wildlife managers, landowners, and private and nonprofit groups.

The Wisconsin Cooperative Fishery Research Unit conducts research on, and trains students in, virtually all aspects of fish resource management.
