FinanceNet
is a worldwide network of people that spans Federal executive agencies and departments, International, state, local and municipal governments, professional organizations and taxpayers as it crosses public-private sector boundaries to provide
electronic libraries
and mailing lists to link participants in a global outreach effort to improve the way governments manage the public's resources.
Our Mission
The mission of
FinanceNet
is to serve as a vehicle and catalyst for continuous improvement and innovation, at all levels of government, in the accountability and stewardship of taxpayer resources by impacting financial management resources, practices, policies and professional standards through the sharing of best practices and dissemination of electronic information. Coordination, policy and support are provided by the
FinanceNet
Core Team
at Vice President Gore's National Performance Review (NPR) in Washington, D.C. We chose the Internet to be the exclusive communications link for
FinanceNet
because of the substantial size and global dispersion of our audience.
Our Goals
We intend to provide access to pertinent electronic information and a cooperative and synergistic medium for the sharing of ideas, successes, news, lessons learned, best practices and experiences by providing:
(1)
Internet access to current and archival electronic reference libraries of financial legislation, Congressional testimony, executive orders and memoranda, important meeting minutes and highlights, and Federal, International, state and local government financial circulars, bulletins, releases, news, notices and announcements, and;
(2)
Public Internet mailing lists (listservs) and discussion forums on a host of pertinent government finance topics to further stimulate dialog, information sharing and reinvention across all geopolitical boundaries by and between taxpayers, governments and educators.
Who's Involved in
FinanceNet?
FinanceNet
is associated with the NetResults network of people and reinvention teams at the Vice President Gore's Office of the National Performance Review (NPR) in Washington, D.C. NetResults networks at the NPR are tasked with linking Americans together with similar interests and professions in a government-wide reinvention effort.
FinanceNet
is the NetResults network that seeks broadly to improve the way governments manage taxpayer resources.
The National Science Foundation (NSF)
in cooperation with NetResults, is providing
FinanceNet
with a package of Internet communication services to facilitate this mission and vision.
FinanceNet's
sponsorship is by the U.S. Chief Financial Officer's Council which represents 24 of the largest Federal Government agencies and departments. Operationally,
FinanceNet
is functioning as the electronic information clearing house of the Joint Financial Management Improvement Program (JFMIP).
Policy and steering for
FinanceNet
is set by the
FinanceNet
Core Team
, a group of interested representatives from every major professional financial management organization, agency, or bureau that maintains Internet connectivity and the will to improve dialog. The Core Team meets monthly in Washington D.C. and is divided into "teamnet" task forces that also communicate largely over the Internet.
However, the most important ingredient in
FinanceNet
is
YOU. In fact, the mission's success or failure depends on how actively
YOU
use and promote its services--how frequently YOU use
FinanceNet's
Internet services to talk to your peers in other agencies, departments, states and cities across America, even across the world. Let's all join hands together to make this effort a blazing success and move financial management into the 21st century.
