BUREAU OF EXPORT ADMINISTRATION
The Bureau of Export Administration (BXA) plays an important role in export controls, guarding the national security, foreign policy and non-proliferation goals of the United States, and balancing them against the need of U.S. firms to be viable and competitive in the world marketplace.
BXA:
- Exercises leadership in the development of export controls, which protect our Nation's vital interests without imposing unnecessary burdens on U.S. exporters;
- Implements an accurate, fair, and responsive export licensing program accompanied by an aggressive enforcement effort to detect, deter, and punish violators of both the export control regulations and the anti- boycott provisions of the Export Administration Act; and
- Develops, promotes, and implements policies that ensure a strong, technologically superior defense industrial base.
BXA is composed of two main agencies:
- Export Administration
oversees the licensing, technology and policy analysis, and foreign availability determinations related to exports of dual-use goods and technologies, and promotes policies to enhance the economic security of the United States.
- Export Enforcement
investigates breaches of export control laws, analyzes export intelligence to assess diversion risks, and develops enforcement cases for prosecution by appropriate authorities. The office also administers and enforces the anti boycott provisions of the Export Administration Act.
