CHAMBERS:  And now...here's a page from Uncle Sam's Almanac.  
In spite of all the worry over watching too much television, 
book sales have never been higher.  The most recent figures show 
more than two billion books were sold--an increase of some 
18 percent in 10 years.  For every American, that's about eight
books--a majority of them soft-cover.  Topping the list of most
popular subjects are sociology and economics, followed by fiction,
children's books, medicine and science.  These and many more facts
about America come from the "Statistical Abstract of the United
States."  Now in its 114th year, it's published annually by the
