In spite of all the worry over watching too much television, book sales have never been higher. The most recent figures show more than two billion books were sold--an increase of some 18 percent in 10 years. For every American, that's about eight books--a majority of them soft-cover. Topping the list of most popular subjects are sociology and economics, followed by fiction, children's books, medicine and science.
