SEL Forecast Evaluation

last update: April 27, 1995

The evaluation of forecasts is the complex process of assessing their quality. Quality in this sense can have many measures including, for example, accuracy, bias, and skill. The various tables and diagrams offered through this page address these and several other aspects of forecast quality. The issue of forecast value for a particular forecast user is not directly addressed by these results, although an understanding of forecast quality can help a user assess value. A glossary of verification terms is available to assist with the interpretation of these results. Recent overview statistics are presented on this page; they will be updated at the end of each calendar quarter. A detailed verification report for the calendar year 1993 is also available.

Table 1. This summary table compiles overview verification statistics for SEL's primary forecast products during the calendar quarter January-March 1995. See the footnotes for a brief explanation of the table entries.
